G506 - Battery Tray, Cab and running boards ID

Post by Roberto Amboni » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:36 am

I need help to identify and restore a G506. He still has the
ashtray on the panel and the bed has DOD December / 1940. Unfortunately he did not
has over the dataplate. This battery tray is different from others
ever seen. The party will take the chassis seems to be something original
factory. The chassis has no hole to another compatible battery tray.
The bottom bracket was replaced because the original rotted. The sides and screw seem original.

Another item that caught my attention is that the cabin has no cutout
to fit the battery. The running boards does not have the cutout for access to
gasoline filter (no holes for the filter compatible chassis
below the cab). There is no brand of patches. Both the cabin as
stapes are unique and seamless.

Thanks. I believe this truck is before 1942. There is the possibility of these models have come with the battery tray of CCKW? Drilling on the chassis of the Chevrolet and CCKW is the same (for battery tray)? You can see that there is another hole in the chassis compatible with a different battery tray. I also noticed holes that were not covered that could have been a modification made by the Brazilian army in the use of spare parts taken from other trucks.

Roberto
The early ones the battery tray is under the floor board, right side.
And the fuel filter if it had one was bolted to the inside of the frame by the starter.

Thanks Jeff.

Do you have pictures of the engine compartment with fuel filter installed?

Thanks Jeff. The figures were enlightening. I checked the engine there is a filter holder of gasoline riveted to the frame as a picture
sent. The configuration of the chassis is not the same as the diagram sent. The tank
gasoline already has the support of two lanes between the bars of the chassis. The
path of the discharge pipe is the same presented in the design or it has changed?

Roberto
Yes the later ones had the extra support for the gas tank, I have a late 1942, and it has one.
The gas line from the tank to the filter is inside the right frame, You can see it on the right side of the tank in the center.
Is the parking or emergency brake the same as pictured or is it on the back of the transfer case.
It may be very hard to tell what this truck originally was unless you have the serial number.

Jeff, unfortunately the truck no longer has the original dataplates. In the photos that
I got on the internet could not get the path of the exhaust system. This is the same
diagram you sent? You have pictures of the junction blocks for wiring harness in the engine compartment?
