Scuba... Dont mean to hijack your post, anyway with only 2K of these units sent to your country, I would keep it, How many are really left? As far as what its worth with or without the correct frame? If it were mine and I had the time I would build it to suit me, Nobody is going to buy it for what you will end up having into it if you add in your time and parts and what not. Your labor alone could easialy hit hundreds and hundreds of hours.
Well 1500 of the Jeeps to Canada were to be used by Canadians overseas, They were built to U.S.M.C. specs. Canada Had radar installations in Australia at the very minimum. From what I have read Canada was involved in every theater of operations during WW2.

Re: Canadian Slat 118916; Advice and opinions..
Good Evening Gents,
I must say that I will be trying to keep it as original as possible. I would have posted pics by now, but I am overseas for work until Mid. Jan. Then I will be right into the project and try to get some photos up. It will be built side by side with another M38 I am working on.
I know I will be getting an original Slat Frame. That being said, does anyone following this thread know of one that I could buy? I am open to anything in N. America.
Thanks again guys, if anyone has any more CDN Slat info please post, I have gotten alot of good reference pics on the 50 odd pages of this thread and good information!
Kind Regards,
Gavin

Gavin, remember to put a back axle light on it, and while your down there, the back axle must be white, and no blackout light on the fender. Please keep us posted.

Hello
The axle light was only installed on CDN contract 242 and 505's which were assembled in the UK. If they do not have that, which includes the switch and plate on the dash, chances are they were not used overseas. Having said that some were used by the Royal Canadian Navy aboard ships, which would have originated in Canada.
I looked on my CDN MB/GPW list and unfortunately I have nothing on file for your Slat.
If you still have the original hood, fenders and bumperettes, you can sand those down to see if there are any markings underneath. These would give a clue if they had been used overseas.
Markings used in Canada were on the sides of the vehicle, either under the entrance or the rear sides.
The vehicle would have originally been issued with two black out headlights with guards, electric wiper,Lifting rings on both front and back and the taillights would have both been the black out type. (Right side style).
Thanks
Eric

If you want documentation on the Canadian MBs then I will suggest you look from page 375 in chapter 8 and chapter 9 (pages 381 to 462) of Volume 1 of the series of books "The evolution of the Willys-Overland MB Jeep" by Lloyd White.
Peter Ferris has information in Chapter 8 and Eric Booth in Chapter 9. This includes the contracts, supplements, Parts list and other service original documents for the various Canadian contracts.
Also... original list of parts particular to the jeeps built for the Canadian Government.

Many thanks for that Mark, i also noticed they had the "JEEP" book by Emile Becker, this is another excellent book, originally printed in French, but thankfully there is now an English version.

Hello Mark
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I searched my data base and i only have what you may already know. So i either got the info from somebody else or found it on line.
I have engine # 121123 with Unit marking # 172 found in England. I loaned out my unit book so cannot tell you who it belonged too, if that was the original markings.
Thanks
Eric
