Re: Zeph's 1943 Willys MBT Trailer
Worked on figuring out the MBT brakes today. Sort of forgot how everything went together, but think I figured it out:
Buttoned up the hubs:
Put the tires on, and dropped it down to the ground. Been a while since this has been on its own feet:
Tail lights:
Now need to quit goofing off and get the fenders cleaned up and painted. Also, will need to figure out the wiring as well...

With the nice weather today, I had some time to blast the fenders, prime, OD, and Install.
Now need to complete hooking up and adjusting the parking brake as well as get the wiring completed:

Re: Zeph's 1943 Willys MBT Trailer
Well, it's come down to the dreaded wiring. At least there are some good wiring diagrams out there:
It's like building a ship in a bottle. Lots of wires and very little room.
Finished wiring the rest of the trailer. Next I tried to install the cotter pins for the shocks. OMG!...that was the hardest part of the project so far...took me forever to get the pins in there! About ready to wrap this project up. I think I probably will not bore anyone in the future by posting any additional projects. I think I will only post on FB going forward...I'll see how it goes.

Re: Zeph's 1943 Willys MBT Trailer
I thought I was at the point where I actually wished I had a friend. I couldn't figure out how to back the rivet with one hand, hold the rivet tool with the other and then hammer it home with the third hand. Finally figured out How to back the rivet head with a chunk of railroad track and hammer them home. Took a bit to align everything, but at least I didn't have to ask for help.
Looks pretty decent. I neglected to drill the holes previously, so had to do it today. Wished I would have taken care of this earlier:
Also shot a small walkaround video. Darn cell phone is always out of focus. Tough to keep it in focus all the time. Anyway, something to look at:

Wow. Zeph with the exception of having the unit markings on it, It looks like it just rolled out of the Willys factory today. Great job.

Have you hooked it up to the jeep to see if you have tail and brake lights yet? Then, using your trusty H700 key...turn the BO switch on the tub to see if you also have BO/tail & BO/brake lights.

On the shock bushing, here is what I use. Surprised you don't have one. Compress it over the stud with a c-clamp and slide in the cotter pin.

Hmm, maybe a short blackout convoy next time we're all camped somewhere with our vehicles and nothing better to do after dark.Chuck Lutz wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 2:10 pmHave you hooked it up to the jeep to see if you have tail and brake lights yet? Re: Zeph's 1943 Willys MBT Trailer
Thank you Roger. Appreciate the kind words. Merry Christmas!
Not quite yet. I hope to shortly. My GPW is a script model, and after installing a reproduction script rear panel I didn't want to drill a hole for the trailer receptacle. I did wire for the receptacle, however, and I was going to figure out some type of mounting for the receptacle underneath the rear floor. I may change my mind. we'll see.Chuck Lutz wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 2:10 pmHave you hooked it up to the jeep to see if you have tail and brake lights yet? I did wire my command car for a trailer, so I can use that in the interim to test it.

That's funny. I made this using an old Dodge WC busing after I couldn't get the lower mounting point pin in. The top mounting pin didn't have any room for a c-clamp, and struggled with those. Maybe not as much as others, but my thumb strength is worthless due to jamming my thumbs over and oever during years of basketball.timsresort wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 2:14 pm

Well, getting down to the mundane. Installed the floor plug today. Still wouldn't float, but if there were water in it at some point, it could actually be drained:

Made it years ago, painted it red so I could find it.zepher11 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 4:39 pmtimsresort wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 2:24 pmsomewhere with our vehicles and nothing better to do after dark. That's funny. Good idea on the Red. It's been getting a bit more difficult to find things as I get older...
