I have a few of them somewhere as well....
If I remember correctly it was Ray Cowdery who made these many years ago.

Before you go making these ..........I should have mentioned that this data plate is not correct for a BRC 40 motor.
It is a "generic" plate and is not even a close match to the original.......see attached photo.
Better then nothing but not correct.

Hi Jim
The repo plates are the same as Bantam plates except they were screen printed not etched. Your photo is not correct for Bantam. The original plate made by continental for the Bantam engines say American Bantam Special. I have some original Bantam plates but don't know how to post them to this site.

The photo I posted was from a BRC 40 that was restored 30+ years ago and was supposed to be original.
Is it a rebuild plate or replacement motor?
What is the highest motor number for a Bantam jeep?
Are ALL BRC motor # plates the same as these early ones posted?

Hi Jim
Does the motor have round press in freeze plugs or does it have square screw in plugs like what the rear end uses for to fill and check the oil in it. If it has the round freeze plugs it not a bantam engine. From your picture the plug under data plate looks round. Look at photo George posted and see square plug under data plate. Yous is probably just a standard y112.

The engine in your photo, based on the data plate, is a Continental model Y4091 (91 cu in), s/n 8166 that was used in industrial and agricultural applications such as Massey Ferguson farm tractors and Oliver combines. Therefore, it must have been a replacement engine in this BRC. The BRC engine was a Continental model Y112 (112 cu in) modified with special options and private labeled as a Bantam Special BY4112. The original BRC engine is so rare that many BRC owners have no choice but to use 1940’s industrial continental engines. The Continental Y69, Y91, and Y112 can fit the BRC. It is preferable to find a 1940’s vintage Y112 and convert into a Bantam Special BY4112.

I estimated 50 engines for service as an example to show that the highest engine number could be higher than the number of vehicles built. I don’t know how many engines Bantam sold to the Army for service. If someone has copies of Bantam contracts for BRC service parts and engines with actual numbers please post.

I figured it could be higher. Out of the 107 BRC you have documented less than a dozen have BRC engine data plates on them. So it is easy to say the Bantam BRC went though the engines. Also there does not seem to be any proof that the engine number was assigned to the serial number. So I would have to say there is no way tell what engine number could be found with any body number.
