Oil Filter Black Eggshell

Post by Old Pal » Mon Jul 10, 2017 8:49 pm

I'm getting ready to paint the oil filter and am having trouble sourcing the eggshell black paint. Rustoleum is mostly what's available. Satin and semi-gloss are too glossy and the flat is, well, flat. I've seen a matte black available by the same company, although the reviews state the color comes out more of a hunter green.

What have you used in the past? Pictures are always welcome.

I use semi gloss. I think egg shell is matte and that is too matte/flat.

The semi-gloss I used was very similar to the satin. Check out the "EARLY GPW" photo in the following link. An obvious difference from the oil filter to the other black engine components.

I don't trust that picture; everything looks very dull and flat. I doubt that the voltage regulator paint changed that much. Make it the color you want however. I make them more glossy than that.

It also seems as though the purolator cover bolt is not left plated as jeepdraw states. It looks painted black. All purolator photos on jeepdraw also seem to have a black painted cover bolt.

I found my answer. It seems the search function does work.

Looks like I'll be painting the filter cover bolt.

Hi,
The use of a clear coat finish over the top might work.

I too struggled with a lustre which I thought was correct, so went with a clear coat which was a great solution for my issue.

Cheers, Ian.
