Nibs first example was to 'crimp one off' on exactly someone who is doing it for the first time. Pretty cruddy example to try to lead by. Thankfully there's plenty of other members who actually are helpful and contribute to new people in this community. We're all better off without trying to use the excuse of 'thick skin' when needlessly whining about other restorations.Ben Dover wrote:Thick skin comes in handy and one has to realize that many of the critics have yet to create their own restoration or have tried their hand at mechanical repairs. Nibs leads by example.

Im certainly not whining,,I just believ in doing things correctly,,and JB weld applied to the engine block
like a grade school art project is NOT doing anyone anyfavors let alone a person wishing to PROPERLY restore an engine for the first time

Would you like the email of the guy that did it to the engine in the first place? Better use of your time to keep whining at him, though I can't imagine he'll care to listen to you any more than myself. Maybe you should carefully read the entire thread instead of continuing to embarrass yourself.Niblet wrote:Im certainly not whining,,I just believ in doing things correctly,,and JB weld applied to the engine block

Nice clean setup you have there, Niblet.
You could consider using stainless steel strips as sacrificial metal. These stainless strips virtually don't deteriorate, but you will have to do it outside, as I believe the gasses created are not very healthy.
Cheers,
Stijn

I'd keep electolysis outside either way as even with regular steel, it still may release gases that are maybe not the most healthy stuff

I can see the shear marks from the tool that made this item,,
Why oh why do guys continue to "blast away"?? I guess this attention to detail is what sets apart
restorations, ,,,,look at how crisp those numbers are!
I put it back in the tank for another 12 hrs to remove the last of the paint,,,then a good cleaning
and ready for primer

Re: Niblets 1943 MB Motor Pool Restoration
Hi All,,another update,,I been really making some progress on this 43 project
I have the frame welded, (less gussets and some odds and ends)
I hot riveted the rear crossmember and while the results arent quite perfect,,I think its pretty darn good for a beginner.

and got another from J Bizal,,,what an awesome fit!

Gusset riveting
Thanks Fellas,
here is some shots of the front frame horn, I riveted on the lower gusset tonight
I am using NOS Gussets and NOS Spring Shackles
not to shabby,,,I used my bucking tool I paid dollars to have fabbed,,it works like a champ
I will put together a little kit and rent it out to folks who want to do their restorations the correct way
