Re: U.S.M.C. MZ-2 Radio Jeep restoration.
Some more parts arrived today. This time NOS Dyneto windshield wiper mounting hardware and even an original wiper arm. The wiper arm I think is a bit too long, however if it does need to be shortened, it will be a very easy job. Removing the rivet on the body will allow me to pull the rod through, where I can cut and then bend another loop into the rod to be remounted.
I've included a measuring tape in the photo for scale reference.

Just read this thread. I just purchased what I think is a MZ-2. It has a few things mentioned here. Body #158000 appears on the first page in this thread as the last #of jeep composite tubs. My body # is 158000

Hi Ed,
I've sent a reply to your PM. The photos you provided indicate you have an MZ-2. It's rather amazing that you have body number 158000! It looks unrestored, and I recommend documenting as much of the Jeep as possible! If you plan on restoring the Jeep as an MZ-2, I recommend buying Lloyd Whites Volume 2. Mark Tombleson and Fred Coldwell shared some great information in that book that helps with the restoration of one of these Jeeps.

Are you making progress on the battery boxes?Farrell Fox wrote:I think this is going to be the hardest box to make. Unfortunately the company that made the first batch said no more, so I'm forced to start from scratch. Luckily my friend Dave was able to make drawings of this. Now it's just a matter of how to go about making it

Hi Bob,
I'm currently trying to raise the money to have 3 pairs of lids made. All of which are spoken for. I could probably add another pair to the current run, but once this run is done, there will be no more.
Then I have to have bottoms made. The bottoms will be cheaper and easier to make.

Proof that my MZ-2 is not being neglected. A little sample of the progress in designing the MZ-2 angled antenna box.

Farrell,
Nice progress and I know all that you are sharing is appreciated. You are correct on the Dyneto wiper arm, it is too long. Mark can tell you how to adjust it. Also, the spacers are supposed to be steel not rubber for the wiper.
I can get you the dimensions when I get home or Mark can give them to you.
Keep up the good work.
Semper Fi,
Peter

The spacers in the photos are indeed steel. Thanks for the kind words!

Farrell,
The spacers do not have the smaller diameter portion that the ones in your picture have. That is what made me think they were rubber.
The design is simply metal spacer with an unthreaded hole in middle that the screw passes through.
Keep up the good work.

Re: U.S.M.C. MZ-2 Radio Jeep restoration.
It's slow going. Been mostly collecting the hard to find parts, though it's come time where there's not much else to collect. I plan to finish the body this spring and then work on finishing the chassis during the summer. I'll post some photos when I can. My restoration thread has been kind of neglected
I test for the Highway Patrol in June, so it might be put off another year depending on how that goes.

My friend Dave had an MB follow him home last week. While we were looking it over I saw it was converted to a radio Jeep at one point (Army Signal Corps), and it still had the battery cable cover still installed. Dave was nice enough to sell it to me for my MZ-2.
