Re: My new to me 1955 M38A1
Well this weekend I did a total rebuild on my front axle, new king pin bearing, wheel bearings and bell crank rebuild. WOW, what a difference, I blamed all my wobble and shimmying on old tires, I was wrong, after this rebuild the old unbalanced tires still let this old girl go straight down the road with no wobble or shimmying !!!! This weekend I put over 50 miles on the old girl, and it"s a hell of a lot nicer to drive!!!!! Here's a pic of it at one of the places I was this weekend!!!!! The miles will start adding up now, even more when I get all the money saved up for new tires!!!!!!

Re: My new to me 1955 M38A1
Thanks, I just keep finding little things to either fix or repair/replace that seem to make it better and more fun to drive!!! It's become a labor of love, and with nice weather around here now, the miles are adding up. Just wish tires were not so high priced, but I'm getting really close to enough money saved up, should be in the next few weeks!!!! Looking forward to going to a few car shows in my area, it seems to be a big hit, as there are not a lot of military vehicles in this area. All I can say is "Thanks to everyone" here on this great site for all the great advice, and help in bringing this old girl back to life again!!!! This is a pic of my newest addition, kinda my way of putting my "Touch" on my jeep!!!!

Re: My new to me 1955 M38A1
This was a long weekend, stripped everything off of jeep, gave it a new coat of paint, then painted all the badges back on, sure looks a lot better, and will look even better in a few weeks when I get new tires and paint the wheels. here are a couple quick pics to let you see how it came out. I will post some better pics after I get my tires.Having a ball, driving this thing every where!!! I can smell the eggs frying, and hear the pots and pans being cleaned. Mess SGT, one of the hardest jobs in the Army.

Re: My new to me 1955 M38A1
Ben, When I was a little kid, sometimes my dad would take me with him when he went to summer camp, I can remember thinking , wow that sure is a lot of food they are cooking, then the hours of clean up, then start over making food for the next meal!!!! Yes, I now realize how hard of a job it was!!!! But, the memories of being there with him, will be in my mind forever!!!!! Bruce

A good Mess SGT was proud of the quality of his food and did the best to make it please the troops. KP's? They had a different take.

Well, this last pic is from a car show I was at last week, in looking back through this post I think I can now say the jeep is finished , now I enjoy all the hard work !! I plan to continue to keep checking this site for help and answers as I need them, but would like to take this time to say,Thank You to all who have helped with advice and answer questions through out this build. I know my Dad would be thankful too. So all I can say for now is , THANK YOU !!!!!!

Re: My new to me 1955 M38A1
As winter slowly is moving in on this part of Pa., My driving time in the jeep has slowed down. I checked yesterday and I have totaled 222.5 miles this year, a far cry from the miles some of you add to yours, but next year I hope to double that number. It gets more fun everytime I take the old girl out. I will continue to add miles till the weather gets to bad for "open air" rides!!!!!

Here's my " New to me" 416 trailer, first time hooked up and out for a ride, not a long ride at 43 degrees, but still fun
