Gentlemen,
The in-tank electric fuel pump in my 1965 M151A1 finally quit and a NOS pump is $350. Has any one tried to use an in-line 24 volt electric fuel pump (cost about $60) as a modification? If so, any tips as far as placement and proper wiring would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: M151a1 fuel pump
i suggest you consider what i've done on my 66 A1. i have a mechanical combination fuel/vacuum pump mounted on the engine where it originally had the vacuum pump for the wipers. it's worked fine for over four years, and is no headache to install, and no wiring needed.

Hi 199thMP,
Where did you get the unit? Military, aftermarket?? Cost? Can you locate a part number to help us out with. Is there a photo or drawing in the 151 manual and directions? Thanks in advance.

Re: M151a1 fuel pump
bharr, this pump was on the jeep when i got it 4 years ago. if i had to do it today, i would remove the vacuum pump that it came with, go to an auto parts store with it, and find one that matched the hole and the drive lever. i can post a pic in a day or two, if need be, but not today, as i'm leaving shortly, and it's still dark here in california (3 AM). the vacuum part serves the wipers, and the fuel pump handles the zenith carb just fine. i can peg the speedometer with no issues, and there is no discernible difference between mine and other 151's i have driven. let me know if you think a pic will help, and i'll get that done for you.

Re: M151a1 fuel pump
Mine was mounted on the inside of the drivers side fender when I got it. The original fuel pump wire was brought through the same hole that the fuel line goes through and connected to the aftermarket pump. It was grounded on a nearby bolt on the firewall. It worked great but I wanted it original and replaced the broken in tank pump. That was a couple of years ago but I only paid a little under one hundred dollars for the pump. Here is a pic. You can see it on the drivers side inside fender.

Re: M151a1 fuel pump
You can use a 69 Dodge Dart mechanical fuel pump and pull vacuum from the manifold. We've done this with success,
