Here are some pics of a modified hard top my Dad picked up in a sale from Eglin AFB many years ago. The top is covering a trailer right now. Thinking about restoring one to the strata blue with this top. The Airforce put a modified back door on it. There is a small vent under the left window.

I think what you have there is a project that by the way side and was 86ed while in service. I have seen a picture of a modification with a lift gate that would clear the gas can and spare tire and held open with support rods and when closed it was held in place with hood latches. It was pretty net looking and well done.
