Hello all,
My name is Alan. My Father, Brother and myself are currently in the process of trying to restore a 1942 Ford GPW (it has been a very slow process I might add). The original Idea was to try and acquire another GPW to use as parts donor vehicle since our current project did not have many of the original parts and after some bad news from a local machine shop regarding the condition of our current engine block. So off to the internet we went, in search of a parts car when we came across this gem up in Indiana and just had to have it. It looked to be a great donor vehicle from the photos we saw. So one trailer later and an 18 hour voyage from Houston Texas up to Indiana we came into possession of another 1942 Ford GPW. However, once we got it to the house and gave it a closer look we found that most of the GPW was original (minus the front axle) and to part it out would be horrible for a jeep in such a complete state.
So here it is:

Re: New 1942 GPW Project
Hi Alan,
Welcome aboard.
What a great start you have to a restoration. It is very wise/logical of the 3 of you to rebuild this one instead of part it up for the other.
Out of curiosity, can you share a photo of the bolts holding the hood to the cowl/firewall please (are they the recessed ones?).
Also, is there any sign of tooth washers under the feet of your voltage regulator?
Thanks for any help you can offer and good luck with the start of this project.
Cheers from Australia,
Ian.

Its a shame to use any jeep as a donor jeep, and this one is well worth restoring, please keep us posted on this.

Re: New 1942 GPW Project
Hey Ian,
Yea sure, no problem, the bolts on the hood look to be original and of the concave type that you had mentioned. As far as the 6V regulator, at one point i can confirm that the engine was replaced from this GPW with an original "Crate NOS Motor" and I do not believe that the original hardware was used for the re-installation of the regulator, but I could be wrong... anyway, I posted images anyway of the hardware used for the regulator installation. I do not see any toothed washers installed, but saying that does not mean that they were not there at any one time.
so here they are:
