Exactly Jim, that's the missing tag. Lots of similarities, I'd bet from the same batch.

Charlie, can you send me a link to your Jeep? Would be very interested to see photos of it.

Re: Iowa Willys MB Project
I looked on the Jeep for a frame tag from REME and found none. Did find an engine rebuild plate under a layer of grime. Tag engine number is the same as stamping on the block. Rebuild date of 5-6-53 which is earlier than the 6-16-53 rebuild tag on the tub. Block casting date is 12-14 as anticipated in an earlier post. Block casting number is 638632 W3A NI CR N2. I looked over the body a bit, looks to be an ACM II composite body by the style of floor brace, tool box and other features. I added a few more pictures of what I looked at.
Was the welded tab with a hole in on top of the steering shaft a standard Willys thing or something added later? Theft prevention?

Re: Iowa Willys MB Project
Steering shaft tab is a later addition. I still think the engine is likely to be original to the frame. The body is a year newer (January 1945)

Thanks for the info Seth. Gives me a good idea of what I have as I start to gather parts to get it back on the road.
Any good options for a replacement Carter carb? If I recall the last time I had mine apart the metal inside was corroded enough it isn't rebuildable.

I bought one of these from Chuck

Eventually I'll get around to having Rick rebuild one (or more) of mine.

Re: Iowa Willys MB Project
Hello,
I see that you have a nice spare tire mounted,
Is it possible to post some info on your spare tire ?
The maker looks to be Dunlop, and it is stamped Military.
A pic of the info would be interesting, was it British made ?
Also, your tail lights, in my opinion are British postwar features as well.
On my jeep, I have the same type.
I also have British rear corner grab handles, that are smaller, and less easy to get your hand around, as compared to originals.
I have no idea why they were changed, to that design, but hopefully someone in Britain will know and can fill us in on that modification.
Also, the fire extinguisher bracket location is the same on my 91YH98 / M6078995
Please post some additional photos of your jeep when possible.
It is a very nice one, and a part of great British WW2 Military History !!
And...... Let's all Remember Dunkirk and the Great Victory that was, and the men who were there !!!!
Looking forward to seeing the new film !
Best Regards,
Ray

Hello,
Also since I didn't know what the British stencil on the axle stood for .......
OEP 220, it is the type of oil used for the front and rear ends.
Basically 90 weight gear oil.
Here is a link with info :

Thanks for the info Ray. I was wondering what the stencil on the axle meant. I will get some photos of the spare tire and corner handles. I know the tire says "military" on it.
Having help identifying the British modifications is great. Until I got on the G I had no idea about the BAOR use and modifications. I need to do more research and build my knowledge base.

I looked at the spare tire. It is a Dunlop with Military molded into the sidewall and it says Made in the USA as well. The taillights say Chicago, USA at the bottom. I took a pic of the grab handle with a tape measure for reference on the space between the handle and the tub. Not sure what standard MB's had when they rolled off the line compared to versions installed by the British.

Re: Iowa Willys MB Project
Thanks,
Great pictures !!
I wonder if the Dunlop Tires were wartime production, they are a Military Jeep tire made in USA, by a British Company.
Maybe they were standard on British contract jeeps ??
That would make great sense.
It would be interesting to find out if Dunlop was in fact the original tire on the BRT jeeps from the factory !!!
The S3 stamp looks wartime, I think it stands for synthetic rubber ?
Dunlop had factories here in America since the late 1920's.
The rear handles are the British "type".
Would love to hear about the design concept for them !!! It seems a weird design, and not easy to grip .
The tail lights being US origin, clearly added post war.....but by whom ?
I will look at mine to see if they are US made as well.
But then again, is it possible that the British used US made postwar lights ?
Tiger Ey was also a WW2 jeep reflector brand .
I know that due to post war economic conditions in Britain, they may have bought lower priced US made products as spare parts, replacement parts, etc.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge can add some additional info for these questions !

Bingo !
I have the exact same Tiger EY rear tail light on my British jeep from the BAOR .
It is on the left rear, the one on the right is a Dietz, with red glass lenses, that have a similar look to a WW2 Stop lamp.
I wonder if any other British jeeps have these post war rear lights ?

Re: Iowa Willys MB Project
Hello again,
Found another British feature ........ my BAOR jeep pintle hitch was also drilled for a safety cotter pin, like your hitch.
My cotter pin is missing, but a couple of the links to the cotter pin chain are still attached to the hitch base like yours.
Best Regards,
Ray
