NICE Unrestored 1942 gpw

Post by ANDY » Mon Nov 07, 2016 9:46 am

Just picked up this very original 42 gpw. All matching numbers, and runs great. Has brown over the original paint and markings. Luckily I found the piece to weld back to the front bumper :D

Great find!
It would be a pity to "restore" it given it has survived this long basically intact. I am sure other members would like to see some close up photographic details. Matching number early jeeps are rare.
cheers
Bill.

Think seriously about leaving it as is it is a fantastic Jeep and they are only like this once. Best of luck with it.

WOW!
This is really madness, which after more than 70 years still come for beautiful parts to the presumption.
For me, the question is, how many vehicles still in circulation, which have the original paint?

I wish you lots of fun with the car!

Why repaint? Don't! Just take the time to remove the outer coat. It looks like it cleaned up fine on the numbers and the star. Might be a bit of effort and time but the results are well worth the effort. If you have a place that is damaged (bumper), or previously stripped don't fret and think you need to redo the whole thing. Things can be left alone for overall character or blended and touched up with new paint and techniques to take care of troubled areas; think of aged props in the movie industry,

Hi Andy,

In the first pic, the jeep has a mirror arm on it. Would you mind sharing some more photo's of that mirror arm please?

i`m trying to collect some data on mirror arms and generate a pattern of what was fitted to what. I grant all these years have gone by, but worth a shot!

Thanks in anticipation,
Ian.
