Hey Matt...
I know its late in the game, but there are many different LENGTHS to the U-bolts that hold the spring plates/axles together. Yours are WAY too long! So I am guessing they are for 11-leaf REAR springs or something. The SNL gives you the measurements for all the various spring packs and axles but essentially, you have too much thread exposed and you run the risk of snagging something and bending them.

Thanks Chuck,
I obviously haven't got the right springs on the jeep but I have yet to find a viable set of original springs in the UK (not even sure its going to be possible), jeep wont be doing any serious off roading so the bolts will have to do at the moment until I take them off in the future to fit the correct springs whenever that shall be!
Thanks for the help!
Matt

Been doing lots of jeeping recently and working on smaller details as you can see, carried out 500 mile oil change and found the oil to be very nice, no metal/sheen or sludge so the motor looks like it has settled in with no issues!
Pleased to have found a true temper axe in the UK, she's has a hard life but looks great on the jeep
Managed to encourage Lucy to come for a drive occasionally too!
Fitted my original radio box and very pleased with it, just need to sort out conduit
In the oil filter with nearly all the oil removed, looks like some carbon particles but no metal or sheen etc.

Re: 45 GPW268333
Hi all,
Just got back from the Goodwood revival where I took the jeep out to be part of the transport corps. The job was to take the drivers, mechanics and their families from one of the carparks to the main gate using the jeeps, this is all well and good in the dry but once it starts to rain the jeep comes in to its own!
We loaded the jeep up on Friday morning bright and early, all clean and new having never been out in the rain
This was at the revival a few hours later! First time in the rain
The job was a great workout for myself and the jeep, the journeys were only short but there was plenty of time stuck in traffic jams and a huge amount of time was spent driving through a foot of mud in the carparks as they were just fields and the rain quickly reduced them to a quagmire. It was great to see how well the jeep handles in deep mud and I didnt feel I would get stuck at any point, I actually only used 4WD once just to see what it was like but there was no need to use it so I just went round in 2WD, did enjoy letting the back slide out though round corners!
Saturday morning was bright
The carpark started to dry up a bit and the ground firmed up
Started to cloud up though
lots of bargrip marks at the drop off point
But oh dear the rain started again and didn't stop, the trico wipers were a godsend!

Stuck behind a load of miserable looking GI's, it was a really authentic experience, so authentic I caught a cold!
Wet jeep driver and wet jeep at the end of a days work
Home safe after the initial clean off, going to be a few days of cleaning to go, the exhaust muffler should be renamed the mud shelf
Great experience for me and the jeep, she didnt skip a beat and was put to some real hard use and abuse gave me a real glimpse of what it must have been like to operate one of these vehicles in reality!

Greendot, that last photo is what a jeep should look like, screen down, roof off, best looking vehicle in the world. (my opinion only)

Re: 45 GPW268333
Thanks Guys, glad you liked it. It was a great experience and although it took a bit of coming to terms with getting the thing you'd spent so long and so much money getting to a perfect condition all dirty, i'm really happy with it. The jeep has cleaned up very nicely and all the spraying and layers of OD have kept it nice and safe, if anything it is driving better than before the suspension feels softer now and the steering has loosened up a bit too so a bit of exercising was good for it. jeeps are best doing what they're supposed to do, going off road!

Awesome good! Your jeep looks great. What color paint did you use on it?? I much prefer whatever color that is over the standard 33070 that everyone (including me) seems to use
