Hello Greendot , I was at the revival too and must have seen you buzzing around - a great weekend. I had a look at some jeeps while I was there and apart from a solitary slat grille all the rest were M201 made to look ww2 .

Hi Barrie,
The M201 is a cool vehicle but its not a WW2 vehicle, i'm biased of course but theres something to be said for driving an original Wartime vehicle, for me the main interest is the originality but to each their own. I chatted to one of the guys with the M201's and he absolutely loved it, everyones different! I've now cleaned the jeep to within an inch of its life, only going to get it dirty again!

Just went thru the hole thread, very impressive work you've done. GPW looks spectacular, love the fact that you left some spots with the original paint and I believe rifle carrier adds so much personality as is. Hope to see more soon.

Could not resist to do this when I saw this particular photo, so here it goes:

I'll stick around to see what comes next! Cheers!

Hi Matt
I just found your thread as I was off the forum for a few years. I have GPW 268350 also from 5/23/45, same day as yours from Dallas. Body 237030. It is still in Texas. I recovered the hood number last night. Mine is 20735153 and yours is 20735216, just 63 past mine. I estimated Dallas was building approximately 88 per day that month, which means mine was built Wednesday morning and yours in the afternoon. I have not started restoration, just working on getting it rolling. Your thread will be immensely helpful when I do get to work. Nice work.
Cheers!

You have to be careful as the production serial numbers and delivery dates are not necessarily linear. My Dallas GPW - 268739 - was crated on May 15, 1945 and had the hood number of 20734499.

Adding your jeep to my informal list of May 45 Dallas GPWs:

269248 20734234 5/9/45
267717 20734265 5/9/45
268739 20734499 5/15/45 <-- Bill
268698 20734844 5/17/45
268350 20735153 5/23/45 <-- me
268333 20735216 5/23/45 <-- Matt from this thread
269934 20735573 5/29/45
270351 20735727 6/1/45

I see that your jeep is only 234 past one four weekdays earlier and 345 earlier than one one two days later. The engine serial numbers on this list are not sequential, for reasons discussed about engines coming off the shelf, but all the hood numbers are sequential in this list.I agree that the average of 88 per weekday is not linear. There is a difference in hood numbers of 1493 from 5/9 to 6/1. If there were 17 work days between those two dates, the AVERAGE was 88 per weekday. Would need to have more data to see how linear the data is, but here is a chart of the data above suggesting that it tends sequential on hood numbers.

Why has every post up to chapter 16 that Greendot made been replaced with just an "X"?

Ditto his photos?

Correction, photos appearing at Chapter 16, posts at Chapter 17.
