Nice job on your resto ! There are pics in the original manuals that show a rope tied to each side grab handle hooked to a lift . You might be able to use the beams in your grage if they are strong enough to hoist it up , push the jeep under and lower your tub down. Has worked in the past .
Good luck !

Question about your windshield :
On the center bar ( bottom of the glass ) on the inside facing the driver about 2 to 4 inches in , do you have a "F" stamped there ??
Thanks !

Thanks for the kind words and advice Timmy
I tried the two grab handle thing with my old tub and it kind of bent... A lot. Maybe because it was weak but if that's the way I go, I'll brace it with a piece of wood or something. As for the windshield, I'll have to check at a later date since I'm three hours away now!

Well thanks for checking when you get back. Did you change out the original GPW springs ?? Those U shaped clamps that hold them together with the bolt going across the top are "F" marked and so are the bolts !
Good luck in school , safe travels

I did change out the original springs. Did a partial trade to another forum member.. I got a deal on new springs and at the end of the day my budget isn't too big so it helped!

I've spent the past couple of days getting things moving again. Took John's advice for the most part and checked the tub for fit today. I was very satisfied, I'll talk more about the repro tub in the future! Couldn't fit much since I don't have much to fit, but everything lined up so well I can't describe the relief. Had a minor setback and had to order all new wheel cylinders (needed doing anyways) so I should be able to bleed the breaks before I start the engine for the first time. Tomorrow I'll paint the underside of the tub and hopefully start wiring; I'd like to have it mounted and aired by Sunday. I'm young and bored, so maybe! Today was four days less than a year that it all came apart!

I would not discount any windshield from being a "FORD" produced one merely because a stamped "F" was not visible when sitting in the driver's seat. They marked the frames on some under where the skin was applied, making them impossible to see when assembled!
You might find a script "FORD" stamping on the tube if you removed the skin from it!

The windshield (especially inner frame) was quite rusty. I don't know if it's sturdy enough to hold glass but it was blasted and I'm painting it since I have it--in the future I may buy a new one.

Re: 1942 GPW #17405 (pic heavy)
I've been working on getting it ready to fire up but a few speed bumps are in my way: first, can't figure out how bubba got this short generator to line up; second, can't get one of these work tie rod ends out; and lastly, waiting on all of my new brake cylinders!
So things are a little torn apart for my birthday unfortunately. Hopefully the birthday money comes in so I can get some odds and ends I need. Flat broke at this point!

Re: 1942 GPW #17405 (pic heavy)
It's been a while, but a lot's happened. Got it started in January, had some knocking, just the fan bent and hitting the generator. The radiator wasn't hooked up great, leaked a lot, then the water pump needs replacing, starter had to be rebuilt, generator and voltage regulator are being replaced with an alternator here in a few days, and finally I'll need a new fuel pump because I think in an effort to save money I got one of the ones prone to ethanol degradation..... Oh, and waiting on one last combat rim to put on after getting a dented one. But that's the name of the game.
Here's some pictures, I'm happy with it overall at least!

Nice job! I dealt with similar issues after getting mine started back in January, too. Generator/voltage regulatory issues, carb issues, fuel pump issues, head gasket issues, etc. I finally, as of last weekend, fixed everything (knock on wood) and have it completely finished. Though it was frustrating each time something else gave me issues, it's highly satisfying knowing I worked through them all and successfully completed it. Keep up the good work!

Worked on a few small things and cleaned the garage.
One question: how flush is the back panel of the tub supposed to be with the rear crossmember? Completely? Or is there variation. Things are bolted down and fit nicely and snugly but the repro tub hangs back over a little. Maybe a couple of millimeters.

And last night I messed around with making some stencils on my computer. Somehow they popped onto the front bumper today.
Oh and my last combat rim is finally here.
