Re: MB 217454
Very nice detail work Ralph, thanks for posting the photos. I was also planning on using the correct ignition switch vs. a keyed one, and am wondering if there is something that can be installed under the dash, maybe a keyed switch, to deter theft. I guess I can always take the coil wire with me when I leave the jeep...
Did you go through (or have anyone go through) the internals on your Motometer speedometer?

I find that having a floor stater, ignition switch, and choke/throttle cables are enough that most people have no clue how to start the jeep anyway...not that I would trust leaving it sit somewhere, but I have taken the distributor cap off and taken the rotor with me before, just in caseBeers wrote:and am wondering if there is something that can be installed under the dash, maybe a keyed switch, to deter theft. Good point Sean - heck, 80% of the people out there would be stopped just trying to figure out a manual shift transmissiontwinflyer17 wrote:I find that having a floor stater, ignition switch, and choke/throttle cables are enough that most people have no clue how to start the jeep anyway...not that I would trust leaving it sit somewhere, but I have taken the distributor cap off and taken the rotor with me before, just in caseBeers wrote:and am wondering if there is something that can be installed under the dash, maybe a keyed switch, to deter theft. Re: MB 217454
Guys I have only once so far had to safeguard mine.I removed the ground strap from the battery...tucked it under the headlight bucket and its wiring harness.Real quick job with a little box end wrench.First glance says the cable is gone...the determined thief would not be fooled for too long, but I had a nicer lunch.
Paul, the speedo rebuild I have sidestepped for now.It does register the mph ok but the odometer is frozen on sevens.Trip meter resets ok so I set her to zero and off I went.May try it myself.

Great detail work Ralph, appreciate the pics! I'm many months behind but do need to get a wiring harness soon. What brand did you use? Seems like MV spares and VWOM have great reps. I think Ron carries MV Spares but will have to check, and VWOM changed ownership a while ago so don't know if their quality was affected.

Re: MB 217454
Thanks Paul.I used Ron's MV Spares set. There were no issues-I thought it was correct in every way.
I may make up my own for the Bantam,it's a pretty simple rig. Finally have some time since the MB is finished, beyond a few incidentals...it is sure fun to drive around,a mild winter here-so far-has helped...almost anyone driving any kind of Jeep gives the wave and many thumbs up from 4wd PU trucks.

Here are some pics of the grille's original tinning-not often shown,I'd say...I know we all like to look at tinning...

An update...fitting bolt-ons before getting the body onto the frame.
Finished the Filtrette wiring & mounting...this was the one it came with,a Solar...now have a NOS Auto-lite start switch
Here is one of the circuit breakers on its bracket, original firewall cardboard in place
Some work on the DS toolbox...original wingnut was there.NOS trailer socket.Mounted on outside with unmarked bolts(as it came)
Jerrycan strap bracket is a little narly but what are you going to do...the tub is too,but solid

Ralph, a little narly is not a bad thing at 74!Ralph wrote: Jerrycan strap bracket is a little narly but what are you going to do...the tub is too,but solid
Looking good, I see you've got the firewall/dash pad on top of the OD, which is just how I found the remnants of mine. I believe Ford put it right over the primer and then sprayed OD on top of the pad. One of those Willys vs. Ford differences, don't know how the composite tubs were set up...

Updating the Motorpool restoration. The final bond straps at the firewall area easier to install beforehand...
The tub is now,I hope, prepped to be returned to the frame.
Tub back in place finally.A few bolts, seat, steering wheel on..

Re: MB 217454
Ralph, question on your tub - did you end up installing the round head screws that go into the front sill hat channels under the steps to hold the filler wood stationary? I have the remnants of one screw, so I see what the head looks like, but all of the info I find is on the composite ACM2 body with the Ford style hats. And the July '43 TM-10-1186 doesn't list these or the nails that I can find (just lists one wood screw for a harness clip, as the hat channels are assemblies).

Re: MB 217454
Hi Paul,
I could find no definitive data for the nails or screws at the time of my floor/hat assembly; I sidelined the subject, knowing I could add these fasteners at a later time. The original floor was too rotted to have any remaining clues, and the new one was certainly sound enough to be unconcerned.I made the wood snug into the hat channels, etc.,
If I'm not mistaken,Thunderbird (TJ) may have the areas plotted on his resto.Maybe he can help more than I.If you get the recipe, shoot me a rough sketch? Here was mine done, less primer...
Your cowl came out just fine. You did a good job there.
