Don't know if this shows up or not... but I did find what looked like some kind of "bang" on the oil pick up. (At least I think this is the oil pick up!) I checked to see if it had perhaps been hitting on the bottom of the crankshaft but it hadn't... hmmm. It's a mystery!

And lastly... I looked this up years ago. I think it was a 46 or 48 engine... possibly out of a truck? I forget. Got to look it up again! Anyways... that's all I got for tonight. Ya'll have a good night!

Hey Dutch
Glad to see you back in in the saddle  I think a lot of the 503'rs reading this will understand how just getting thru living can take us away from our projects. BUT your back onto it now. So good luck to you :)

Hey Mr. Peters and Mr. Bill... it is good to be back. Hopefully I will be able to get somethings accomplished this go around!

Regarding Bear, my chessie... sadly I had to put him down. He grew more and more aggressive... finally attacked a good friend of mine and did a good bit of damage in a very short couple of seconds. They say that a man has only one special dog in a life time. Bear was definitely mine. He was my buddy and I still miss him... terribly so.

Looking forward to seeing you guys on here.

Dutch

I was finally able to squeeze in almost an hour "jeep" time this evening. Worked a little on the engine... not much. Barely had time to finally finish removing the flywheel and mount the engine on a stand. I was able to confirm the motor was not locked up... praise the Lord for that! I think I decided (indecision is a terrible thing)... I THINK I have decided not to continue tearing the engine down. The seller of this engine said when I bought it that the motor had recently been "gone through" and rebuilt. It has sat now for at least a few... if not several... years. But the oil was in good shape... no water... no sludge in the oil pan and no metal shavings either. I'm going to take all this as a good thing and start assembling the parts needed to get it running. I THINK.

Hey Dutch
I think your right not to tear your engine down. Your decision will be confirmed one way or the other when you come to getting your project ' Up n runnin ' :) regards Nick

Hi Dutch,

I agree with Nick in proceeding without pulling the engine apart. I would just make sure you give it a quick test start before the final completion of the project just in case.
