Re: 1942 Ford GPW
I love the L-16A and your GPW is really coming along great too!
I think it's interesting that the frame has a GPW number but the cross-member under the radiator is a round tube like an MB. Maybe I'm a little out of it, but I didn't know that some GPW had the round tube instead of the normal GPW channel. It's neat that your frame is a little different.
Keep up the good work. It looks great!

Re: 1942 Ford GPW
Thanks Michael. I'm no expert on the GPW's but I do know the early contract Ford's actually used MB frames. I'm sure someone else could chime in on the exact number of Fords made with Willys frames but I think it was somewhere near 15K.
I am juggling two projects at once so it doesnt seem like I make a lot of progress on either one. Someday, they both with share the same hanger together...

P.s. I'm curious what the paint color is too.

Sorry Rodney, been busy and didn't have time to reply. The OD color is 33070 from Rapco.

Grear work Jeff. It's good to see another Midland framed GPW restored. One thing, though. I think you've got the fan mounted wrong way round.

Jeff,
That is looking very good! Thanks for posting! I read through the thread, but could not find if you had listed the engine number. Is it original?

Re: 1942 Ford GPW
Hey Jpet. When I purchased this jeep, it had a Willys motor that needed to be rebuilt. Instead of building it, I found a GPW motor with a serial number that was in the 22K range and dropped it in. Hopefully one day in the not to distant future, I will hear what she sounds like! Fingers crossed!

Re: 1942 Ford GPW
I HATE A THIEF................... I have spent the last three nights working on my Ford grill. I took it to the airport today(the shop that I do most of my painting in) and had just put the final primer coat on and had laid it outside the building to dry. I came back out less than an hour later to find someone apparently liked it more than me or the thing grew legs and walked off by itself! There was some old scrap stuff lying out there that they got too. I guess they thought it was ALL junk and was looking for a quick buck!
WHAT REALLY makes me mad now is to think that it will most likely be in a scrap pile next week and might bring a couple dollars across the scales......
I did File a police report and plan on checking with local scrap buyers Monday morning. I guess i will ask them to be on the look out for a primered grill.
Chances are slim that I will get it back so I will be in the market for an early flat-top Ford grill if anyone has an extra lying around.
I hope other 503er's weekend was better/more productive than mine.

Re: 1942 Ford GPW
Jeff, looks great! I feel sick for you and the loss of that grill. Another one of our club members had their radiators stolen out of five WWII vehicles. I am sure they went for scrap.

Check eBay and your local craigslist. These bums might think about selling them.

Re: 1942 Ford GPW
Thanks Ronnie. I remember Tom's loss. Mac, I have already checked Craigslist with no luck. I will continue looking. Had a great date with the wife which has helped. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did....
