Willys MB 130887

Post by FJ.Janssen » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:05 am

Dear all,

Im thinking of buying the MB as seen below in the pictures.
Anybody any ideas about it?

I know the following:

In the picture:
MB 130881 or 887

- steering house must be replaced
- new front bumper needed
- no combat wheels
- I get the seats
- hole in front floor
- Engine was pre or post war...

What would be a reasonalbe price? I'm thinking aroud Euro 5k.

Thats about 19 Jeeps away from mine! I have MB130602, does it still have script rear panel? or part of it? It should be a BRT jeep (British Contract) DOD 25th March 1942.

Looks like you still have the original Oil filler tube and dipstick and Aircleaner? whats the number on engine block?

Front end will need more then just a bumper...both frame horns will need rebuilding.

Tub has been cut for a tail gate and rot in the usual places. Does the other tub come in the deal??

Lots of bits missing!!

5k Euros seems expensive to me.

It is expensive, Whats the gearbox in it, anymore pics of underneath? Prices in Europe are so much more than the states but at the right price might be a nice project.

Hello guys!

Thanks for the replies!
Of course, cheap is different these days. And especially in Europe prices are rising....
I know a lot of stuff is missing.
From the other side it looks not too bad overall, with a lot of potential in my opinion.

About the gearbox you're right is a T90, so it must be replaced by a T84.

And I also like the post of Ironage, if you restore it as original it gives you a wonderful (yellow) vehicle as original workhorse.

I don't have pics of underneight, rather take a look at it myself. Pictures don't lie, but you cannot see everything ;)

More replies always welcome!

Hei,
If the head of the engine is original to the engine, its post war, , there are reinforcements between the heads studs. As is the waterpump. The fuel pump does not have the post war glass bowl, but as far as I can see, there is no pump lever, as per ww2 pumps. Bit strange, a lot of the engine auxhilaries are disconected; rad, throttle linkages. Have you actually heard or do you know the engine is running? Looks like a replacement made just to be able to sell a 'complete' jeep project out of leftover junk laying around (wich might be confirmed by the 2 better looking tubs in the background). Tub is a ACM 1. Right fender needs welding.
Anyway, even in Holland you'll find one in better nick for that price. Try HO Wildenberg in Rhenen( Remmerden) (He'll probably be at the ruilbeurs the 20th mars in Breda: http://www.ktrbeurs.nl/).I would look around a bit more before buying this one, just look at the prices of the major parts like the gearbox, you'll have to buy. And than the smaller parts :? . Even the yellow paint won't make it worthwile for that money.

Have a look on Milweb, there are better projects in Europe for the same or less money.

Hello fellow Dutchman. What are your expectations in restoring this old soldier? Must it have original or good repro parts? Factory class resto or not? I have been there, done that in my Ford script restoration a couple of years ago. Mine was a little the same like yours, in need for a total restoration and missing lots of parts.

Do you want to have a jeep that is fairly original? Read on, if you don't care, don't bother the rest.

If you want to have it as good as possible, I come to the following list:

engine compartment:
- Replace post war engine with war time engine: between 2000 to 3000 Euro for a reconditioned engine.
- Radiator is leaking? add 150 euro to fix it.
- voltage regulator: 100 euro
- horn: 100 euro for reproduction
- carburetor: between 150 and 300 euro
- cross over tube: 100 euro
- wiring: 100 euro
- new head lights (bulps)

other things I see:
- front bumber: repro: 150 euro
- front frame horns have been cut off! Is not an easy repair.
- combat rims: between 150 and 200 euro per rim (x 5 = 1000 Euro)
- missing NDT tyres: 150 euro per tyre (750 Euro)
- new steering column: between 150 and 250 euro
- new gas tank: 250 euro
- New canvas between 1500 and 2000 Euro
- missing grab handles: 150 euro
- windshield glass and inner windshield missing: 150 euro
- wrong steering wheel: 150 euro
- T84 missing: 1000 euro?
- rear seat? between 150 and 250 euro
- new front floor: 150 euro
- wrong guages: 200 euro
- speedo overhaul? 300 euro
- exhaust: 200 euro
- replacement rear end: 200 euro?
- bumperettes
- spare tye carrier
- many, many, many bits and pieces
- top bows + brackets: 200 - 300 euro

Milweb might have better, more original and completer jeeps: http://www.milweb.co.uk/classifieds.php?type=13

Look at this one, it's in Belgium: http://www.milweb.net/webverts/50358/

And you probably know Wildenberg. He is expensive, and he doesn't have these kind of unrestored jeeps. Beware! The jeeps he has are high priced! If he has any jeeps at all.
Take my advice: buy a jeep as complete as possible! The jeep you were looking at is way to much money. Compare it to the jeep in Belgium (no connection to the seller), btw I see it is from a fellow G503'er (William) so you can't go wrong with that :) Serious Frank, I am more excited about that one than the yellow one.

Or, take a look at this former firebrigade jeep: http://www.milweb.co.uk/classifieds/lar ... 258&cat=13. For 8450 Pound. But with the current exchange rate this jeep will cost you 8700 euro! And look how complete and unrestored that one is! It has a lot of goodies! For more photo's and lot's of text of this red jeep: http://www.willyshotchkissjeeps.com/jee ... .asp?id=43

Good luck! If you need help, send me a PM.

There you have it, maybe frustrating, because jeeps aren't easey to find.
About Wildenburg, Im in no way connected other than being a costumer once in a while. The last time I visited the place he had 3 jeeps in storage wich seemed to look okay.
Good luck and consider Williams jeep, it looked much better indeed.

Bouth the MB about 2 weeks ago...
Some people are born stubborn ;)

Started to take the engine apart.
See pictures below of engine casting numbers.
I know the engine is pre war. But I like it, most of the technics are looking good.
I'm only doubting about the pistons so I have to measure both piston and cilinders.

One question.
The engine nr on the block is: 152286
I think this is not the correct number of the block.
I found another number stamped on the block which is normaly covered by the waterpump flange.
Is that the original engine number or another number???

See pictures, thanks for any comments
