GPW 15065 recovered in east central PA. Been sitting in the same spot since 1981. Much modified for snow plow use, with Buick V6 and homemade enclosure. Very, very rough and incomplete.
DOD 4-14-42, original (zinc?) tags. Haven't recovered frame numbers yet.
Now in Moundsville, WV

Photos please! Yes, your air cleaner is probably early and would have a sticker. However, your jeep is likely supposed to have the "pancake style" filter. From your description, I'm not sure what type you have.

I just thought that I'd add Script GPW-45633... (DoD: 3rd July 1942)

She's 'living' in the UK and has been fully rebuilt, with a new tub (I now own her original tub & fenders) & engine and still retains her three original brass data-plates - I don't think her current owner is a member of the Gee though unfortunately, but I believe she's up for sale...so maybe she'll be 'officially' on the list soon???
Hi

Fuel tank filler tube...
Maybe not. The early small mouth tanks did not come with a fuel filler neck/in-tank strainer. You should have the firewall mounted strainer/filter, F script and a small-mouth seat pan on the driver's side.

Guess I never got around to this.
GPW 964
Engine - GPW 1369 Wilson foundry block.
Manufacture date, I am told was 2/42. Not sure of the DOD or that this is the actual manufacture date.
Hood number - Don't remember off the top of my head but it was a guess. The original was not recoverable. ( Edited - The number used was W-2055917. Is it close ??? )
Willys frame - Willys tag pilot holes were never drilled out and frame stamped GPW 964 by the left engine mount.
We have the original tags but repo's were stamped and installed on the glove box for cosmetic reasons. The originals are put up for safe keeping.
I was just the wrench. The owners are Lee Schweitzer and the late Reason Biddle ( RIP). They were the bank role but I will proudly take responsibility for 964s frame up restoration. Lee was excellant support and at gathering intel and locating correct parts.
Story, as I was told, We know nothing of it's military life. After WWII, a Veteran farmer from Alabama bought 964 at a depot in Nashville Tn. with a copy of his discharge and one dollar. He used it on his cattle farm in Ala. for many years until it broke down for some unknown reason and was placed in a back lot where it sat for many years. Retired Col. Al Grounds, from Smyrna, Tn. found it and bought 964 from the veterans grandson and took it back to Tenn. where he disassembled it to restore. But never did.
Lee made contact with Al, some way, and ended up buying 964 and brought it to me. I will always remember those famous words, " You can make a Jeep out of this can't you ?? ". It was totally dismantled and in really bad shape !! I said " Sure !!"
At that time, we did not know what we had. The plan was to just end up with a running jeep Lee could use to drive his father (RIP) around the farm. Unfortunately and sadly, That never happened. The day Al ( "Col. Blade", that's another story.) delivered 964 to my hanger, the hanger was full of guys from the Indianapolis MV club. Some how they got wind of this before I did and that is when the numbers were uncovered. I remember standing at the edge of the crowd asking, "What's going on ??". 5 years later, 964 was restored back to what we think was it's Feb, 1942 condition.
It now spends most of the time in the climate controlled comfort of the Automotive Heritage Museum on the 931 by-pass on the north side of Kokomo In. but is fully functional and on nice days is taken out for a spin.
If you are in the area, stop by and check her out ! :D
