Ford GPW Hood hinge Bolt

Post by Enrico » Sun Dec 10, 2017 8:35 am

Dear All,

I would like to know if the bolt in the attached pictures may be correct for the Hood Hinge of the Ford GPW. I have heard that those bolts are not the usual F marked type, but integral lockwasher bolts with head recessed. This bolt is a 1/4 NC X 5/8" (?) external teeth lockwasher head recessed with a protruding edge at its base and is marked with a S.

Thank you for any help.

Enrico

I believe those are for the transmission hump and master cylinder cover. The proper ones for the hood hinge have a internal star washer on them.

Right...what appears to be a plain flat washer had internal openings and is permanently affixed to the bolt. It does have the same recessed hear though...

The ones at each end for the ground straps are NOT like this however...

Hi,
I guess they should be S2 (Parkerized) finish?

Enrico,

How early is the GPW?

I do not believe they were used on any of the 1st contract GPW's and only started sometime after the production of the second contract.

The earliest GPW I remember seeing them on (now that is not to say they arent on earlier GPW's) is in the 51XXX range.

Hope that helps,
Ian.

Chuck,
I don't agree with you on this one sorry. I`ve only ever seen GPW's with 5 of these bolts used.

The 2 into the hood hat channel are standard hex bolts though if that is what you mean?

Cheers,
Ian.

Right....five in the middle as in the photos and two outer are hex head, not recessed.
