Help with some simple details

Post by JoeP » Wed Aug 16, 2017 3:20 am

Hey guys,

Hi, I'm new to the Jeep world and wondered if you could help me identify the production date and possible bonnet number of my 1942 GPW?

The chassis number is 24,348, but the original production plate on the glove box was replace in the 1980s and the new plate simply says "June 1942"

I assume the new plate can't be accurate for two reasons:
1. It should be a numeric number, i.e. 07 / ?? / 42, right?
2. One book points to early May 1942 for the production number 24,348, but due to several different Ford factories, these production numbers seem to jump around by as much as a month in some cases!?

Could somebody please help me identify its probable production date and matching bonnet number range, for the restoration ahead of me?

Thanks,

Joe
