Re: Gauges
I have to say not. Only the speedometer and the fuel gauge appear to be military, but the engine gauges should be the paint can variety and the SW speedo should be a long needle for the VEP GPW, but I'm sure there might be some exceptions, but I'm not up on those.
Here is a good read:

Re: Gauges
Thanks for your replies.
The fuel gauge was the one I thought might be correct but looking at the link 17thAirborne posted it looks like the correct gauge has a longer needle.
I think for me its near enough.

The fuel gauge looks later than the VEP paint can lid gauge.

Re: Gauges
What kind of jeep we talkin' about here? MB or GPW?
GPW = NONE are WWII factory correct.
MB = Only the FUEL gauge is even a possible Autolite for an MB but if your MB was early enough it would have a "GAS" marked gauge anyway.

Re: Gauges
I agreed with chuck
Early 42 MB should read GAS the later 42 will read FUEL.
None of the gauges are original except later MB fuel gauge.
The speedo is not correct, as it is postwar and correct for M38/37 as I can see the number on top of the face.
The battery gauge is not correct. its correct for crane trucks and Range Rover cars ( 4WD )
The oil and temp gauge is not correct. It's correct for tractors and big trucks as it is SW.
What's correct for GPW ford
1941/and very early 1942
All should have paint can lid style bezel
Long needle fuel gauge
Long needle amp gauge with small block F on bottom of face. But not sure if the amp was -30:15/15:30+ or -50:25/25:50+
0/80 SW oil gauge and temp gauge 100/220 F
All should say Stewart Warner on the bottom on face.
Later 42 till some where in early or mid 43
All Gauge are same but bezel are different, they are similar to the MB bezels
43/ till mid 45
All same but fuel gauge are short needle and amp gauge are still long needle
Mid 45 till 50 fuel gauge still short needle and amp gauge are short needle as well.
Early speedo are long fat needle. In 43 were short needle speedo
MB gauge willys autolite gauges
41/42
Should have GAS
Amp gauge should read -30:15/15:30+.
0/80 and temp gauge 100/220 F and should have bigger studs on the back of case.
Some where between January to March 1942
The amp gauge should read -50:25/25:50+
The rest same but don't know when the oil and temp gauge bigger stud were change to small studs
Some where later 42
The GAS gauge was change to fuel
Early speedo should have long skinny needle
Later ones are normal short needle
Hope I have this right
I will be selling all my gauge next week about 25/35 gauges I have.
Cheers Peter

Re: Gauges
My 4 April GPW has all standard rim (not paint can) gauges.
BUT, I'm suspecting that yours is showing "shadows" of where paint can gauges were removed.

Re: Gauges
all paintcans except the bottom right. And the um..."patina" pretty much matches. This is where more expertise is needed. Was there ever a "mixed set" installed, or is that one just a WWII era replacement....1943Willysgpw wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 7:27 amI just happen to have just started on my gauges. See pic below. That one was replaced. I have a paint can lid to replace it. I was able to trade a junk 1996 ford for it....lt.luke wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 8:21 amall paintcans except the bottom right.
