I intend to read this thread, and wanted to jump in. I believe this assumption is INCORRECT. It's my working assumption that there are MORE F-marks on earlier jeeps than later ones. There are also more Ford-style variations on parts earlier than later (applying the rule AFTER the introduction of Ford-produced frames and blocks).

Keep in mind there are TWO distinct Ford-style bolt heads. 1. The stereotypical "F" and the distinctive "plain head" bolt. Both are correct, both distinguish Ford installation vs any other manufacturer (the myriad of MB used bolts, the BC used by Bantam, the raised dot used by IH, the DPCM(?) used by Dodge etc).

EDIT: THREE Ford style bolts. I forgot about the recessed head bolts found on some seat mounts, t-case pans, and access covers.

Thanks for adding the clarification. I appreciate this thread becoming more detailed in the details. Its what we need to get it right.

Your black rubber hood blocks are not original. IF I can remember and find mine, I have a pic of a VERY sorry condition one. They are "C" shaped, and made of OD rubber.
12078 still had a "tall" crossover tube and decal Oakes. It is 100% OD green as confirmed by sandblasting, so it could be an early replacement. She also came to me with an OD VEP early bellhousing. I'm assured by Tom W this was a replacement.

12078 also came to me with an AUTOLITE GENERATOR.

Do not forget about the spring-loaded body bolts in the holes inside the tub at your feet.

You should maybe DEFINE "VEP" and "OTHER" in terms of this thread. My 12078 is 1st contract and I personally consider it VEP. It is almost 100% Ford, keyed glovebox, (I installed) a keyed ignition, I believe it's early enough for FORD tires. Ford Body, Ford Frame, Ford Engine.... She was disassembled when I got her, but LOTS of F'd bolts in the bins and boxes.

Don't forget the Ford specific Tyger-ey reflectors either. Again....IF I can remember and find, I can post a picture. I gave up restoring them and installed some off-brand incorrect ones I was gifted, but I HAVE a full set of originals.

yes. That tub should have a 1/2'' wide formed metal tab screwed in there and utilize the late style "PUSH" button.

GPW 20151 has the spring-loaded body bolts as well.
This one has been retro fitted with a trailer socket and the reinforcing brackets at the back it seems.

How are the reinforcements attached? What is your DOD? Is it Script?

GPW is 4-20-1942 Script.

It has two triangular strengtheners welded from the two toolbox sides to the rear panel.

If it's a Script, the reinforcement strengtheners were most certainly added some time late. Do yours have several holes for bolts? The reinforcement kit was an MWO (modification workorder) applied in the motorpool. Yours was likely applied at some level above unit motorpool as they were welded instead of bolted.

Has anyone verified or refuted the notion that the VEP mirror arm is longer?

AFAIK...there would e NO reason to have a longer arm on the side mirror on a GPW....if there was, it would probably have a part number that reflected its use on Ford trucks. So for me....the mirror tubes should be the same length on all GPWs from the factory.

I updated the master list regarding the mirror arm until there is agreement on yes, no or only on some.

I also update the comment "Very few Ford marked bolts" by adding the following verbiage.

PROBABLY SHOULD READ NOT ALL F MARKED BOLTS

I will modify it gladly again if there is agreement on what it should read.
