ALL Jeeps, MB and GPW, came from the factory painted 100% matte Olive Drab.

There are several parts vendors that carry very accurate paint for the WW2 Jeeps, check to see which are situated in your area. The Jeeps used in North Africa and the desert that were painted sand yellow/ sand color, were all just painted on the upper surfaces, all of the chassi, axles, etc etc were kept original OD. Some restorers go a bit overboard and paint all of the Jeep, axles, frame, the lot, in sand color, which looks pretty, but it's not very authentic.

You seem to have a pretty nice example to work from as a start, most stuff seems to e present, and not an awful lot of rust (barring rust found underneath bondo..)

Best of luck with the restoration, and keep us updated.

Was this GPW exported recently from the US? If so, there is a very high probability that it never left the US, until recently. If the seller said (and had good reason to believe) it came from a military base in one of the Carolinas, then thats the best information you have about its past military service. You can always paint the jeep in ETO livelry though (field painted registration numbers in white in the larger font over the factory blue drab numbers, national emblem with recognition circle, etc). Did you find any registration numbers painted in white? Your blue drab numbers are the ones applied at the factory after it was accepted by the government. The presence of white over painted registration numbers might indicate overseas service.

Your GPW looks very nice. I wish I could find one just as nice for myself...and I live in the US!

Congratulations and welcome to the Gee.

Where are you located?

Hi Bertu,
Your blackout guard has the particular Ford style (the 4 holes on the side), you will probably find a nice F on top of the "horseshoe" if you brush it.
Could you email me or post here a picture of the glovebox door (inside face and hinge) and push button?
I don't have mine and want to be sure about wich version I should get!

Thanks a lot!

Don't hesitate to post as much pictures as you want!

Hi Michael!

Yes it was exported a few years ago from US. The previous owner told me that it was in a base in Carolina but nothing before this base :(
Yes there is presence of white numbers too on the registration numbers on the hood... (If that means that it was overseas, YOU MAKE MY DAY!!!! :P ) Lets see If I can find some more info.
I am located in Barcelona/Catalonia/Spain... So, thats why my english is difficult to understand for you...

The guard may be WWII but the fender BO Lamp housing is post war.
I also believe Richmond only used month/year on the data plate.

If you can search for the War Assets Administration brochures that have been posted on the gee....they actually list jeeps by their USA number and often the base where they came from....you have the USA, maybe you will get luck again?

Thank you Chuck and wheeeer !!!
I tried to see if there is a F on the guard but there is not. That means that this piece is not original? Or may be they did use not marked pieces to during war production?
Chuck I couldn't understand what you explained in this sentence: "If you can search for the War Assets Administration brochures that have been posted on the gee....they actually list jeeps by their USA number and often the base where they came from....you have the USA, maybe you will get luck again?" My english is still quite basic, could you explain me how can I search the War Assets Administration??? What is gee???

Thanks again for you posts and help!!!
