VEP frame numbers

Post by M1045 » Tue Sep 22, 2015 8:26 pm

Ok, so I'm thinking I've got a VEP. Do they all have the GPW number stamped into the frame just forward of the driver's side engine mount? Is there any other way to tell?
Thanx.

Hi Dj,
Do they all have the GPW number stamped into the frame just forward of the driver's side engine mount? - No

Is there any other way to tell? - The DoD on the data plate is the best place.

What number do you have ?

Yes another one.
44620 is all GPW. :+)
Not sure of the number yet. I'll have to find it on the frame. I believe it to be a GPW on an MB frame.

I have a VEP frame GPW. March 16, 1942. Ser. # 4747. Too early for a jerry can or fender blackout light. Never left the states. Spent it's life in the desert of California.

I just thought id mention that my GPW 6008 has a midland frame but does have the holes for the willys tag (but not fitted) and has the correct stamped GPW number.
Ford GPW 6008, in slow process of restoration.

I was thinking the stamping on the top of the frame was in front of the mount. It's actually behind.

My early Ford has the midland frame with GPW2956 stamped in it and also has the tag rivet holes where the MB tag would be placed had it not gone to Ford.
