Hello All ,
Just need some help to sort that out
What kind of marking should be on the VEP ?
I found that small bolts on a slat grill and some EC on 1943 GPW
Were they cast iron with Ford ?
Happy Xmas to you

Re: hood catch small bolts
The ones off my '42 GPW and '43 GPW were the Ford style plain bolts. Some have found "F" marked ones but plain are correct also. I think a VEP would definitely have the plain Ford style bolt.
I have three other GPW hoods and they were all the plain also, with the Ford style head.

Re: hood catch small bolts
Jean...I believe that the GPW used only plain headed bolts in that location. Certainly some "F" marked ones from other locations might have been put on in the field during service. As long as they are not SHORT, modern bolts....but are the slightly TALLER head style you should be good to go. I also look for the slightly ROUNDED top edge on them as a clue to them being the correct style.
Remember that later on in the war Willys used hoods with an "F" on the hinge but most likely attached the hardware with bolts that had headstamps on them. It is possible that hoods were switched or hardware was switched at any time and resulted in a VEP having "AA" bolts on it or a VEP having bolts used to attach the hardware that came from a bin of them in the motorpool....they could have had an "F" on them that way.
