Re: MY NEW GPW UK
Our jeeps are pretty close in number and date! Mine came with tombstone which had been unit fitted. I didn't refit it after the restoration though as i wanted to go for the factory look.

Re: MY NEW GPW UK
I have always thought if I was ever lucky enough to own a jeep I would recreate the 1st Commando Brigade jeep that carried my grandfather from Normandy to the Baltic. However, having found 11084 to be so original I am now unsure. I live on land that was once part of US Army marshalling area 'D5' where units the 2nd Rangers & 1st Infantry Division were based prior to leaving for Omaha Beach and it seems more fitting that after nearly 70 years she should once again wear US Army livery.

Hi Steve!
Sorry I've not replied sooner mate
Your jeep looks lovely now fella - you must be really proud of her!
You asked about the ford markings on the hood - I was told, I need to buy a 'ford' hood for my script too - the markings are correct and I believe they're made using different pattern canvas sections to those used on the standard MB/GPW hoods available...there IS a photo of one 'somewhere' on the internet if you google 'GPW Summer Top'...
I see your in Dorchester - I used to live locally to you actually - nr Bridport (Broadoak) many moons ago and still get down your way a fair bit - you'll have to get the kettle on one of these days mate!!!
Best Wishes & keep up the good work!
Guy.

Re: MY NEW GPW UK
Hello again guys. It's been a while since I've posted so I thought an update was in order. Work on 11084 is 90% complete and she is now back on the road. After much thought I've had a change of heart and decided to restore 11084 to how she would of looked in 1946 when released from US military service. So by using old filler/bondo plugs as a guide all the field fitted items have been reinstated such as B.O. light (tombstone) & switch and the fuel can holder (fitted well clear of the Ford script). The trailer power hook up point was still in place. She now has her hood original number as discussed earlier in this thread. Although it was always a dream to recreate my Grandfathers wartime jeep I am happy that 11084 once again has her true military identity - another little piece of WW2 history saved.

You can be very proud of that restoration!
The before/after photos tell a very good story to anyone contemplating a restoration.
Nice one!
