Found for sale with what looks like a old "restoration" with some bubba issues.
The plate stamping is light and missing date and other info.
Has anybody seen a real plate like this? Scanning data plate photos on this site seems like the numbers are quite deep compared to this one.
Does this GPW data plate look legit?

An early 44 brass GPW data plate would look like the first photo and a Spring of 44 aluminum data plate would look like the second photo below. The one in your photo is a repop.

Re: Does this GPW data plate look legit?
Thanks. Kind of what I suspected but I am still learning so it helps me to ask the experts.
The seller claims to not know much about it.
The truck appears to be mostly there. It has a GPW stamped block and frame.
The back half of the tub needs work. The rear inner fenders and toolboxes have been skinned over with sheet metal (?).
Somebody cut in a tail gate.

Re: Does this GPW data plate look legit?
the rear inner fenders and boxes are prone to rust and damage from the top (flat surface) and the bottom (obvious reasons). Skinning them is pretty common. They are also prone to rust on the tool indents (driver's side), continuing around and under the fuel tank well. Skins are common in these areas too. Also common is to plate over the fuel tank well and add a CJ fuel tank (flat bottom and fills from outside, rather than under the seat). The hat channels (reinforcing "C" shapped metal skeleton under the tub) are REALLY prone to rust. Partially because they collect mud around them, but also because they were originally partially filled with wood, which collected moisture and rotted.sawbuck wrote:The rear inner fenders and toolboxes have been skinned over with sheet metal (?).
