Calling all script GPW's in (North)east USA

Post by jkillelea » Tue Dec 10, 2013 2:24 pm

Hi to all Script GPW owners in the (North)east USA! I was wondering if it might be cool for a lot of script GPW's to get together for a "Script GPW gathering". I don't know if there is a Guiness Book of Records for something like this, but it would be fun.
I live in Northport New York, about an hour east of New York city, and I have two script GPW's. One is running and the other will be by summer 2014 (I hope)
I would like to hear from everyone with a script GPW about the possibility of such a venture. It may take a long time, but would be unusual. I'm not excluding any WW2 jeeps at all, just would like to see a lineup of Ford stamped rear ends.
Hope to hear from you if you think it would be possible or not; and where you think it would be best done.
Thanks.

Hi Mickael,
Great! Where do you think it should be held? I had some thoughts: In order to get jeeps from the Mid Atlantic states, I thought maybe Aberdeen where the East Coast rally is held. Another idea is the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading PA. They have a very elaborate event with reenactors and stuff. I also thought maybe the Butler Heritage Festival in Pennsylvania where they have hundreds of jeeps of all kinds. What are your thoughts?
Also, are all your scripts running? Have you taken all of them to any shows? How do you transport them?
I've been looking at renting a car trailer, but that would only transport one jeep. I have seen wedge trailers that go on a strong pickup, and that can haul 4 or 5 cars. I don't know if they can be rented or not. They would be too expensive for me to purchase, and I don't have a truck to tow them.
Let me know what you think, OK?
Thanks.
John

Count me in with GPW 19714. Interest will dictate the location. Possible SE Mass and RI locations: The battleship Massachusetts in Fall River, The Air Museum in Quonset, RI, The Washington County Fairgrounds in South County RI. Anyone else in SE Mass or RI with ideas?

Hi David,
Glad to hear from another Script owner. Merry Christmas. I haven't heard back from any others in the Mid Atlantic area or the south. It may change, who knows? If need be, the areas you've spoken about might work ( RI or southern MA) Let's see how this all plays out.
What condition is your GPW? Running? Finished or near-finished? Have you taken it to any shows? What's the farthest you've travelled it? What is the farthest distance you would be interested in traveling it for a special event like this? Let me know, OK? Thanks.

My Script was made in Chester, PA I know it's no longer a Ford facility, but it's still standing. I know some are trying to gather all Louiseville, KY jeeps for a photo op at the Louiseville plant in 2014 at the Louiseville MVPA. Same sotry, no longer a Ford facility, but still standing.

Any thoughts about trying to do something at Chester?

Depending on when you are thinking, I might be in a position to bring mine up from Atlanta. I've got 14280 DOD April 13, 1942. But it's got a reop MV tub on it now until I can get the OE tub restored and swap it out. It's "heart" is a script GPW, but it's wearing a MB coat.

Hi Robert,
My scripts were both born in Dallas according to Tom, so I don't think I will make it to Louisville (it's 790 miles), though it is possible to bring one on a trailer if I go. The idea of Chester is much better, since it is not as far, and possible to bring both scripts. I don't know about the other guys in Massachusetts, who together have 4 scripts, and one guy in Maine who has one. I don't know about others. To have the maximum scripts together, I may bring them north. But that is definitely not a definite. I still don't know about other script owners in the eastern US. I guess time will tell. I'll try to keep on top of things.
What I would like to do is collect as much info about each owner and their script as possible (level of completion, ability to transport their jeeps, emails, pictures etc.)
One other idea is to get photos of all scripts from each person, and superimpose them into one photo. it would be a very easy, though not perfect solution, as the physical presence of the jeeps together would ideal. Each of us could look over one another's jeep and have great discussions!
I'll keep you posted

John

This is coming quite a long time after original postings, however ..... Has anything been set about getting together. I just saw this tonight and wondered.
I have a script jeep as well - 20636. Live fairly close to Reading, I could probably drive there or to Chester if there are enough back roads to stay on! lol

Hi,
So far, there has been no get together. I took my one script which is drivable to the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival this summer, which had almost 2000 jeeps, but there were only a handful of WW2 jeeps there, and mine was the only script. Today, actually I got the second script wired with a new harness, and drove it a block when it ran out of gas. Guess I was too excited to check the tank. Anyway, next summer I will have both scripts running, so maybe we can do something. Where are you located? Is your script finished?

Hi all script GPW owners! Happy Thanksgiving to all. Two days ago I was finally able to drive the second of my two scripts on the road. Still a lot of problems with rust, carb, overheating, leaking tranny/transfer case, and steering, but it RAN! Anyway, I thought I'd send along photos of the scripts side by side. Hopefully some day I/we can organize some script GPW get together. If not, we can possibly do it in cyberspace, or with some image enhancement to place a lineup of scripts together.
Enjoy.

Would any of you mind posting some pictures of your Script GPWs. It could help me and others in completing ours correctly. Thanks.

There is a cornucopia of photos online and on here. Why not just try a search? If you have an opportunity to attend and MVPA Convention I would do so. There are always at least a handful of '42 GPW's in various condition. It's a great opportunity to get all the photos you want.
