VEP Ford GPW blocks

Post by Michael O. » Wed Aug 28, 2013 3:42 pm

I just acquired GPW engine # 2263 and was wondering if anyone else has an early Ford produced block? I know Ford started producing blocks while they were using Wilson blocks also, so I wanted to see if anyone has seen a GPW block with a factory applied serial number this low. I appreciate your input.

Some one will get more specific than I but I think the stars dropped off when the ser numbers started getting to long for the boss, just exactly what number, not sure , maybe at 5 didgets. ive seen 3 didget blocks -Wilson and they are starred, my 2090 is stared. whether ford or Wilson, the same ford machine shop assembled and stamped them, so I don't think you will see any real differences in the stampings from one to another. please be nice with the corrections/additions

Good one Chuck! Still trying to search to see if anyone else has a VEP GPW block that was factory stamped and is near mine in serial number range. Steve's Wilson block is 179 digits lower and Mike's Wilson block is only 10 digits higher than my GPW block. This obviously shows where some of the overlap occurred during the transition from Wilson blocks to Ford blocks in GPW production. VEP guys...what engines do you have in your jeeps?

Yes, I've seen Mike's block...it's 2273 and it's a Wilson. Strange that mine is 10 lower and it's a Ford. I'm trying to get a tally of any other known early VEP Ford blocks around my serial number.
