rear axle dates, MFG, and F marked

Post by steven ellis » Sat Jun 01, 2013 5:26 pm

Time for a little home work. I was looking at the rear axle to today and I was wondering if my veps had dates on the axles. I was under the impression that ford axles did not have dates stamped on the housing. I thought it was a willys thing. So I checked mine today and it has a date code of 11-26-41 so too did the ring gear. (yes the leafs are ford). Fords used zink chromate primer on early gpws, this is what got me started. Do veps have f marked scalloped axles? this one has unmarked and they have zink chromate primer under the od as does the hubs. Willys did not use zink chromate primer-so that leads me to think that atleast at Dearborn, not F marked scalloped axles, at least early early ones anyway.

looking for input from owners of under ser # 500 up to 5000 but any vep is still note worthy.

I'm outside your tolerance, but I'll start. 12078 has "F" scalloped axles. I do not remember the color of primer, nor the date code.
