Al, Paolo has released TWO KINDS of rubber boots for lamp-to-connectors as an insulation or weatherproofing...
1) the FOUR that go on the taillight buckets
2) the TWO that go on the slat grill BO lamps in the grill

Evidently this extra info confused Tom but it is important to me to differentiate the two items Paolo has available....

Ford does call for:
GPW 13461-A GROMMET - REAR LAMP TO BODY A-627 (1) I believe these are the TWO grommets between the taillight buckets and the rear panel......but note that the book only calls for ONE!

GPW 14496-A SEAL - TAILLIGHT SOCKET - BLACKOUT A-729 (2) I believe these are the rubber boots (sleeves) covering the wiring connection on the back of the taillight buckets......but note that the book only calls for ONE!

So as usual, no one can count at Ford and the description of the GPW 14496-A item is confusing at best with "taillight socket" and then "blackout" next to it....when taillight "housing" is a term used two pages previously to describe the tailight bucket.

Sorry.... You never got the answer you were looking for so Ian and I attempted to be of assistance, sorting out the mistakes in the manuals and the appearance of TWO different products from Paolo. I think it's clearer now, but the drawings and possibly when these two items above went away is sitting in a box in someone's storeroom I guess???????????????

Hi Chuck,
Ian's post is perfectly clear, as are the others. It was you who got confused, from what I could see. My original post was "tail light socket rubber caps" and I am not sure why you changed that to BO marker lights in the grill. As for the grommets, I mentioned them previously and Tom established the part number. As for the quantity, my Ford parts list (as mentioned further back) says 2 required and it also says "blackout".

I hope Ian can find the photos of the GPW he saw with the remains of the seals in place. It sounds as if it was similar to mine and I know it had 4 fitted.

When I hear/read the phrase "BO LIGHT SOCKET", the first thing I try to figure out is if they mean FENDER BO Light, GRILL BO LIGHTS or TAILLIGHT BUCKET BO LAMPS....

Sorry I tried to be of assisstance.

Hi Chuck,
I've no doubt your intentions were honorable but it helps to read the previous posts before you jump in, otherwise it ends up all confused like this did.

Hello Al & Tom,

This part is a mystery one :!:

Parts in the 14*** series are the wiring parts and not the lamps or switches so the rubber boot relates to the wiring ends.

GP 14496-A would indicate a GP part carried over with the first change (A) but I can't find it in the 2 parts books ( March & October 1941) I have for the GP :?: :?:

Guess Ford messed up the quantity

I not Paulo lists them with GPW part number

Has this mystery ever been solved? Just curious because I have an unrestored Nov 42 GPW76070, and it has rubber boots on all four tail light sockets that need to be replaced.

It's a preservation project, and I'd like to keep it as close to original as possible.

Stay tuned, Ian! You documentations of several unrestored gems inspired me to take detailed photos.

So, who sells these rubber boots? :-)

I look forward to that mate! Just remember, and it seemss you are luckier than I was, take a photo of everything and you can never be too close to photograph part of something! I realised now that I had forgotten to take shots of so many things! Luckily, you can go outside to the garage (I guess!) and take another photo, the jeeps I saw are on the other side of the world, or country or I don't know where they went!

Cheers,
Ian.
