1944 TROOP TRAIN 8/11/16

Post by mfrance » Mon Jun 06, 2016 2:28 pm

1944 Troop Train at the Pleasanton Convention

A very limited number of seats are now available to ride a chartered 1944 WWII troop train using the Niles Canyon Railway facilities on August 11, 2016. This is an exclusive 1-day event that starts and returns to the Niles Canyon Railway station in Sunol, CA, located approximately six miles from the MVPA International Convention at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Train rides are roughly 1½ hours long, and include a layover at the end of track. The train features period locomotives, three flat cars loaded with WWII military vehicles, three Pullman passenger cars with wooden bench seats, and a caboose all authentic to 1944. There are three trips scheduled, plus a staged photo opportunity.

The train tours will depart at 10:00 am, 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm on 11 August. Round trip tickets are $20 per person, and will only be sold through 1 July 2016, or until they are gone. There will be a photo opportunity, in front of the train, from 9 to 9:30 am for people in period clothing, civilian or military (Allied forces only please). Due to limited space there will not be an opportunity for military vehicles to be parked in front of the train. Train riders DO NOT have to be in period dress.

Train Trip Tickets purchased through the MVPA will be mailed through the postal service prior to anyone’s departure for the convention, domestic or international. You must arrange for your own transportation to and from the Sunol train station for this event.

For more information about the Niles Canyon Railway visit: WWW.NRCY.ORG. This is not where you purchase tickets. This is a chartered event, and you may only obtain tickets through the MVPA Supply Room at www.mvpa.org.
