Who owns GP # 9466?

Post by Jim Gilmore » Sun Jun 12, 2016 8:20 am

Does anyone know who owns GP-9466, USA - 2018339 ? It is reported to be in the Netherlands.

I ask this because I have come across some data on it's testing and use by the US Army in the National Archives.

What is the original USA number of your GP?

I am looking for 2018339.

If you know the original USA numbers for any of your GP's send it to me and I will check my data base and see if I have any photos or documents on them.

Hi Jim, I used to own GP8524 Army #2017445 DOD 2-28-41. Years ago I received documentation from Larry Smith and Merril Madsen that this was one of the first 8 GP's shipped to Uncle Sam. It is now owned by Brian Wolf. Would be nice to see any pictures of it. Best wishes; Leo

Leo,

There are two Signal Corps photos of that GP and one that may be it with a radio set installed where the passenger seat goes.

There is also a color photo of it in Radio News Magazine.

That GP was one of the first shipped. It was sent to Ft. Monmouth, NJ.

Jim,

There was a photo of that GP published in Army Motors with the owner back in 2009.

Amazing! I have been searching through period photographs for years looking for any of my vehicles with known registration numbers. The closest I've found is a '43 GPW with a registration number 20 digits higher than mine.

You're a lucky guy Brian! Congrats!

Hello Jim...I hope all is well with you. The GPW I'm referring to is of a GPW being tested at Aberdeen. Registration number is 20369265.

There is a photo of another GPW (20369282) that has a registration number 37 digits higher than mine being tested at Camp Hood in April or May 1943. They were testing an experimental 12 volt system on it. The report referring to the vehicles tested was dated June 1943.

These are the closest but still have hope to find photos of my Apr '41 WC-4, my Mar '43 GPW or my Oct '44 MB since they still retain their registration numbers.

The fella standing beside the GP on the beach looks like Fred Smith from the U.K..

Cheers
