Russian Bantams
I can't remember who it was who insisted that there were no Bantams sent to Russia because an appropriate QMC document couldn't be found " verifying" the transfer...and scoffing at " anecdotal" evidence of (Bantam) eye witnessess but, for the tight undies contingent I offer this rcently surfaced bit of fluff recently purchased at a Russian e-auctin type site. No doubt it is a total fake, but, I just thiught I'd post anyway.

Kidding aside, I was for some reason surprised to find the data plates in Russian...did the other export prototypes, or other lend lease jeeps feature this too? Still working on whether Russian Bantams were KPH or MPH too...experience from other cars?

Tom...the corners are missing because we snipped them off and are having the metal spectrographed to see if it matches up with the ores used in the other, U.S. plates...I'll let you know.

Re: Russian Bantams
thats funny, we took carbon samples from with the grooves of the "F" stamp impressions to carbon-date the number of NOS parts that were all hidden in India at the end of WW2. Maybe we should have also hacked a piece out of foot rests to spectrogram the metal and see if it matches samples collected from the Ford plants.Polar Roller wrote:Tom...the corners are missing because we snipped them off and are having the metal spectrographed to see if it matches up with the ores used in the other, U.S. plates...I'll let you know.

Hahaha..As the saying goes, you can't make stuff up that is weirder than the reality! You gotta love this site. If I were a defense attorney I would be in hog heaven if I could select a jury out of the Gee...The defendant could take off the head of the judge in open court with a broad-axe and it would still likely be a hung jury...

Maybe we get Robert DeRupter to make these Russian BRC tags in reproduction? At least for Terry's Russian BRCs...

Re: Russian Bantams
Here's a set of Soviet Lend-Lease Jeep plaques made by "LtHorne" (His Ebay sellers name), and he also produces Chinese one's for those so inclined.
His e-mail address:
g503@interia.pl
Robert is a very nice chap to deal with, his prices are reasonable, and he's stationed in Poland. I think he nowadays provides stamping service for the plaques too, not sure so please ask first. He has all kinds of fonkey plaques for a large variety of MV's, that he's collected over the years. Good luck =)

Re: Russian Bantams
Hello everyone,
First of all the Willys data plates has some syntax errors caused by poor scan or photo quality. I wouldn't buy these. Some of original TM manuals have additional text part in Russian (for example TM 10-1513 1942) and there are good examples of plates in Russian. But I never seen the plates in Russian yet here in Russia. Most of the plates are missing or regular ones in English.
As for Russian BRC plate, I contacted the owner of this plate but he is not going to sell it and a bit far from my place for eye-witnessing. Mine BRC body is a good proof for me.

Agreed: I have one of those manuals for the Willys MB, and it has Russian overprinting on the front cover as well. Mine is TM-10-1513 Change 1 Sept 1 1943, and it has a section at the back in Russian which is titled 'TM-10-1513 October 1 1942' and has 'Russian Edition' included in the heading.

I think we all would love to see scans of the TM and other sources you're referring to.
