Re: M38A1 turn signals
Hi Guys , just for info , all the Canadian M-38A1 were fitted with signals this includes our 53's which were done in the 60's you can use all solid state or the sig stat in the previous photos , all the wiring is the same for the M-series vehicles , if you use the small orange lights it will look quite normal as all the Canadian 67 and 70 M38A1's used these , and if you are installing a new rear harness have it set up for dual brake and signal so that you use 2 OE brake service tail lights, all the connectors can be changed back and forth (douglas and rubber)
hope this helps,
regards Frank

Re: M38A1 turn signals
I have been pondering the "turn signal" question since we acquired our '54 a few weeks ago. My thoughts are to utilize an aftermarket turn signal switch that is available from street rod vendors for retrofitting older vehicles or custom builds with turn signals. Rather than mess with the 24V system, I will simply install a fused power tap from the first battery and run 12V to the switch and flasher. This will require that a new wire then be run from the flasher unit to each light housing with either LED or conventional bulbs also being installed. I would likely utilize the front convoy housings and in the rear I will need to take the housings apart and inspect them to determine what will work best there. Am I missing anything?

You weren't very clear on the jeep's operating voltage. If it is still a 24V jeep then skip all of the lamp and wiring duplification for a parallel 12 volt lighting system and just buy an aftermarket 24 volt commercial/emergency civilian vehicle turn signal switch and flasher and install it directly into your 24V jeep.

Thanks for the suggestion -- Trucklite has a production facility 10 miles west of here. Kind of cool seeing their logo on the box. Our Jeep is 24V and shortly after my first post in this thread our neighbor provided me with a vintage turn signal switch from his collection of street rod parts. If I elect to use it a simple paint job and it will absolutely look the part.

Re: M38A1 turn signals
There was a kit at one time for a military mod to do it .
Take a look and see if I can find it.
Was interested in doing it on my 38.
