So I'm planning on replacing my windshield on my 52 M38A1. The windshield that's currently on there is a solid piece (with a crack). When I bought the Jeep it came with a (I believe) unused NOS split windshield that had a cracked pane. While removing the rubber seal I managed to scallop the good pane. It's not a big scallop (about the size of a fingernail). The window shop that I'm taking the windshield frame & good pane to is quoting me $119 per pane. Plus $70 for installation This seems high, but they said it takes a long time to custom cut the glass. Does this seem to high? I'm guessing I should replace both panes now but am not sure. Also I was going to order the new seal from Kaiser Willys. Any recommendations for new seals or glass?
Thanks

Seems a bit steep. I don't know what the rate would be but I'd shop around, if you haven't, and get an idea. I wonder if just a glass shop (not autoglass) would be able to help you out. Its just flat safety glass.

It's easy to install the glass. The seal is very similar to seals used on window screens.

Do you have an original Jeep PN 680430 Seal made for the split windshield? It is slightly different than the one used on the one piece CJ-5 Windshield.

Re: Split window repair
I am in the process of replacing the glass in my M 38, Bingswanger glass quoted me 160.00 and a 20 day wait. I found out that most glass companys don't want to mess with it or they charge a high rate. High quote was 220.00. That's with me already having the gasket. So I am waiting on it now. Did get the gasket from Kaiser Willys.

Re: Split window repair
I took a one piece CJ5 windshield and a NOS split glass rubber seal to a local glass shop. They trimmed the panes and installed the whole thing for $60... took two days.
You might do better finding a small shop that depends upon keeping customers happy... they tend to be more accommodating.
