Radio Jeep ID?
A friend of mine has a radio jeep that hasn't run in a while. Which type of radio jeep is this? I'm thinking a regular G503 that was converted?

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
Looks like an USMC radio jeep so either nom 12 or mz 1 or 2. You can tell by the triangler piece by the drivers seat. Should also have a oval hole in the glove box

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
Contract radio MZ for sure and looks to have had a 1947 or 49 kit installed.
Bob... you know the drill... photos of the right places and all the numbers (body, fame, engine, etc.).
Start with the body number and gusset type:
Look at this threads... there are dozens of similar.

It has a spare tire foot so MZ-1 or later... if it is original.
One item to look for in those threads is the hinged glove box door... not correct for a radio jeep as you will see but the rivets on the data plate are very similar to ones installed by the USMC. They are silk screened or look like they are and so far not stamped so look carefully at the center one.
Oh, check for numbers on the drivers side hood and the passenger side above and below the grab bar. Scrape all the drive train enough to see the original paint, is it forest green
Cool find my friend!

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
The hinged glove box door was confusing me. I need to make a trip back over there when I have more time to check for all the numbers. How would you attack the data plate to avoid damaging it?

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
Someone at tower park showed me how to clean a Cushman data plate with layers of civilian paint. He used brake cleaner and the paint wiped away

Looks that way to me also.
When Bob reports back with the numbers we will know.

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
I went over to take another look, interesting stuff. The center data plate has about 3 or 4 layers of paint that is chipping off right down to the bare aluminum. I tried to carefully remove the paint in layers to no avail. There are no stamped numbers on the plate that I can see.
The front crossmember.
Engine serial number GPW-195736
ACM number 3502
Frame number <->195736*
Undercoating???
I think I see filled holes for radio box brackets???
I did not see a hole in the glove box floor until I looked at this photo taken from the under side. Looks like there was a hole that has been filled.
Cowl support wire bracket.

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
Well, we need to review this thread again...
http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=264634
This appears to be a NOM-12 body on a GPW. The other option is this is a factory GPW radio jeep.
Kam, what are the nine and frame numbers on your GPW?
I see you are using the numbers on your sig line of USMC 48649, the one photo of a radio GPW.
Oh, don't feel bad Bob... you are not the first with a unmarked data plate with that type rivet... I've seen a couple of others.
Great photos, mid range NOM-12 body number, and yes, the asphalt emulsion undercoating.

Re: Radio Jeep ID?
I'm not a Ford guy, but shouldn't there be a "GPW" prefix on the frame number?
