The crossmember on the MZ-1 does not have those studs either, Farrell.

Finally finishing up the body. Saved as much original sheet metal where possible. The wheel well tops literally were pushed out by hand. The new tops from Midwest Military fit like a glove, and make the tub much more ridgid!
Found this rather interesting. Whoever was working this tub at ACM anstalled my tool box floor crooked, a whole 1/4" inch off.

Removed my driver side to do some straightening and restoration (busted out the whole shop on this one). This allowed more access to install the wheel well top. Surprisingly, the driver side wheel well top was more difficult to install. Not having the outer sheet metal for point of reference made me double and tripple check the fit. Then there was an issue with the repro tool box sill having the rear slot cut in the wrong spot, so that was a pain. The side wall is pretty straight but is wavey, so hopefully it flattens out easily....... hopefully.

Looking great Farrell! I'm currently flattening my side panel and I've had good luck with a shrinking disc I bought off ebay. Still required a ton of hammer & dolly work beforehand though!

Ah yes, I ordered a shrinking disc as well! You'll have to share some pointers on how you handled yours, as I've never used one before. Though it seems rather straight forward.

Its not a miracle tool as some youtube video tend to say but I mostly use mine to get rid of tiny bumps (kinda acts like a thousand tiny hammer hits on the high spots only) as it shrinks quite slowly. But I use soapy water to cool the panel down and act as a lubricant and let the tool do its work without too much pressure.
To shrink I use a MAPP torch with the a water-soaked rag and it does a lot more but harder to control/easier to mess stuff up. The shrinking disc would do great for a final touch-up.
I think its a better tool on curved panel, but as you already know, we don't have many of those!

Re: U.S.M.C. MZ-2 Radio Jeep restoration.
Did a bunch more body work today. Set the body on the chassis to work on the driver side panel as the body was flexing a bit. This also gave me a chance to check the fit on the chassis, which so far it fits like it should. Fixed the antenna bracket and added a new hood. Polished up the passenger side and added a few more plug welds for strength. It's about as straight as I think it's going to get. Started on the driver side and was nearly finished before I rand out of welding wire. So I'm dead in the water till tomorrow.
