Old spark plug ID

Post by stacey » Fri Feb 02, 2007 1:21 pm

I have a friend that bought about three hundred old one gallon cans with spark plugs inside them, each plug is in a metal container. The plugs are Tan and marked Champion RC34S and 087 underneath. The cans have dates of 1946 on them. I was wondering what they are for? I was told they are for airplanes. Thanks Stacey

I have a better number for the plug RC34S I thought it was a 9. The cans these come in are still sealed. the color is more of a tan. I still cannot find anything on the web when I run the new number. Any help on ID or if they are worth anything would be appreciated. Tahnks Stacey

The RC34S is a superseded type. The modern equivalent is the REB32E. It fits many Lycoming flat opposed engines, including the O-360, O-540, and O-720 series.

It also fits Pratt & Whitney R-1830 and R-2800 series engines. I would think your friend might be able to sell a bunch to warbird operators. They would fit F4U Corsairs and P-47 Thunderbolts, among others.
