Hmmm... not really sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes! There's a B17 and a B24 here in Savannah, GA. It's pretty cool/weird seeing them flying around, haha! It's pretty neat seeing them plus there's a gentleman who lives near here who owns, I think, 3 P51s. 2 are airworthy I know so I get to see those every once in a while but seeing the B17s and 24s is awesome! I'm going to see if I can get some pic tomorrow!

The Collings Foundation has two aircraft here in Savannah for the week. This is their last stop for the flying season. Its the B-17G "Nine O'Nine" and B-24G"The Dragon His Tail."
I'm going to see them tomorrow in my AAF ground crew kit to get pics myself aswell.
Perhaps we'll run into one another.
Regards,
MARNE

Derek,
The Collings Foundation has had their B-24 for quite a few years.
Perhaps you are thinking of "Fifi", the CAF's B-29? As far as I know, they have the only flying B-29. I think I heard there there is another airworthy B-29 in addition to "Fifi", but it is not flown.

As with a lot of things in my life, I've totally lost the plot when it comes to timing. I'm thinking of something that happened a 'couple of years ago' that turned out to be 1989. I bought a commemorative calendar at the time and it's picture of 'Diamond Lil' has the note that it is the earliest B-24 and is the only one flying. I guess a lot can happen in 17 years. Sorry for causing any confusion.
One thing that has emerged since 1989 is the Web....

Yep,
The Collings Foundations B-24 has gone through htree name to my knowledge:
"All American"
"The Dragon His Tail:
now
"Witchcraft"
As for the B-29's "FIF" Is owned by the Confederate Air Force and is flyable..."Doc" is the other newly restored B-29 at the Wichita, Boeing Plant in a 300,000 sq. ft. hangar and she is flyable. I think they fly her on special occassions but, not like on the circuit which "Witchcraft" and "Nine O' Nine" are on.

MARNE

Noted the entry "Nine 0 Nine" and I would guide you to the 91st bombgroup of the 8th Air Force, Squadron 323, one of the first 9 b-17's to cross the Atlantic in WWII. My Father-in-law was in a sister ship the Eagle's Wrath" in that same squadron. He is no longer with us. That squadron participated in the first daylight raids over Germany during the war. Their website is www.91stbombgroup.com The 91st has a display at the 8th Air Force museum at Savannah, GA....

If they were ever pressed in to service again, I suppose it would be a comfort to know that you were being bombed by an Air Force that took PC seriously.....Chuck W. wrote:Boy, are you in a heap of trouble now! It's now the Commemorative Air Force......don't want to offend anybody or anything. Gotta be PC"FIF" Is owned by the Confederate Air Force
It reminds me of reading a book in which the First World War was described as 'the recent unpleasantness'

I could kick myself repeatedly for waiting to the last minute to see the planes. I thought today was the last day for viewing and tours, not the last day they would be in Savannah period! I went over there as I was planned and they were already gone... man... they need an emotion for crying your eyes out... oh well, maybe next time.
