SNARK MISSILE STORY

Post by Joe Gopan » Mon Feb 20, 2017 10:20 am

A Snark Intercontinental Missile site was established in Northern Maine in 1959 with the installation of a handful of Missiles. It was a part of the Presque Isle Air Force Base. By 1961 the system was discontinued and the missiles removed.
A publicity film of a Snark Missile launch was shown on local 1959 evening news as the site progressed. It was funny as the station loaded the film backward and the missile launch was in reverse with the exhaust plume disappearing as the missile backed up toward the launcher. One Missile minus its rocket or jet still exists on display at an intersection in Mars Hill Maine.

Old time missile men from the early days of Cape Canaveral and the Air Force Station say the waters off the Cape are Snark infested. 8)
