Using a vehicle post auction without permission or leaving access for somebody to use (or play in) the vehicle, while it awaits shipping, is bad business ethics.

Sorry to say,,,,, you cannot restore a almost ground up restoration, with water damage, without taking it apart once again.

I would imagine, added to water penetration corrosion, it now also has "simple green cleaner" runoff corrosion.

Not surprised here...

Many of the Panzer IV parts that were from that tank were in some of the lots they sold...like the seats. GOOD GRIEF!

As far as I understand the law...a seller cannot simply "return" money because they changed their mind. Once they accepted the payment, Vulcan became the legitimate owner of the Panzer IV.

Only way to cancel the sale is if Vulcan AGREES to the refund and cancel.

I hope Collings Foundation gets everything coming to them.

As with the Sherman, same rules apply. Once paid for, the buyer was the owner. Only way to use that tank to two others is if permission is given. Otherwise it is Breaking and Entering, theft, damage to personal property, etc.

I would suggest they were worried about transportation costs of moving all items off site to auction. Far easier to nail buyers after the fact. The sad part about all this is that it appears the sale was used as a quick dump and run. If the sale had of been handled in a more professional manner and with some insight, pictures, videos etc and potential cataloging and sorting of items, bids may have been far greater. Considering the nature of the goods being sold, it may have been advantageous to post or make available a bidders list so that individuals could be contacted to arrange trades or sales after the fact. This in itself might have increased interest and bids.
We have all seen these things happen at estate sales where the dollar is king and nothing else matters.

Anyone know the eventual fate of the M50 Sherman from the Littlefield collection? Did it end up going to the auction buyer or is it tied up in legal wrangling?

John,

I thought a collector from the UK purchased it (after the lawsuit settled) and it's over there now.

Oh sure Ron! I think you bought it and have it stashed away in that ever growing armory of yours!

Like the M1 Super Sherman, and the M51, it ended up in England and is currently undergoing restoration.

Hopefully it has gone to good hands in the UK and will be restored in Israeli turnout not de-modified into it's WW2 livery. Too few of these important tanks left. I notice Adrian Scott's M51 has got itself a healthy coat of olive drab...any idea if this is it's final finish or will it get a coat of IDF sand grey?

The Panzer IV suit ever settle?

Wait, just did some digging. its Case CIV530374 in the San Mateo CA court system. Looks like Collings lost, but are appealing the loss. The court docket isn't super clear.

Enter the case number here and poke around.

Slightly OT

Any idea of what parts the Panzer IV is missing ????

Under the parts pile that I bought, (the M5 Stuart sand fenders) was a exterior armor cover plate to something.

If other bidders have found other oddities in the stuff they bought from the Littlefield auction, maybe we should start another post, and do a show and tell.
