Hi,

The frame serial number, hood number, a photo of the serial number data plate, and the engine serial number would be a good start.

I just became the new owner of Scout Car sn 267049
It had an after military life with the Belgian police force , therefor painted dark blue over the original olive drab
very important is that the complete car was kept original , no modifications at all , except that the drivers compartment had been separated from the rest of the car by a sheet metal plate , which is very easy to remove , not welded but bolted to the sides

I see from one of your posts that you have some 12v bulbs for WW2 military vehicles. I need some for a project I am working on. Need one of each type for scout car tail lights, that is an upper and lower for the driver side tail light and an upper and lower for the passenger side tail light. I also need one more set of 12v bulbs for the driver side tail light. That is six bulbs in all. If you can help, I would sure appreciate it. I can pay through pay pal or send check. Thanks

Hi jeepinaheap,

Just to clarify you question, are you asking me or someone else about the tail light bulbs ?

I recently bought mfg #265372, ordinance #13584 and started restoration in Pa. I cannot find any vestige of a hood number. Any idea what the correct number might be, though I am a very long way from paint.

Scout Car S.N. 265372 should have had hood number 6086847 and should have been assembled in late '42.

I have 256117 what would be the hood number and date of manufacture? I always was told it is a lot 5 and it shows up that way in the data base That would put it circa mid war. Is it?

Yes it is an early Lot 5. I owned it (256117) for a time along with 256012. 256117 came out of Idaho and belonged to Will Geer. I sourced the roller, windshield armor and some other stuff for it before I sold it to a man in Georgia. If you look closely I think you will find small rebuild tags on the axles dated Feb. 1954. 256012 had the same tags dated exactly one week apart. They both had the remains of a large stenciled ACCT99 in a couple of spots and 256012 had an extra 99 stamped on the data plate in front of the serial number so it read 99256012. Never did determine what that signified but I suspect something to do with being rebuilt in early 1954. I still own one lot 5 now, 256272 and it does not have the Feb. 54 tags. They were all found out west, 256272 in CO and 256012 from Arizona. The data plate was gone from 256117 when I bought it.

Hi rgus,

White serial numbers are not tied to the hood number only the ORD number from the data plate is so with no data plate / ORD number any hood number would only be an estimate.

Hi ClintM20,

Thanks for the scout car back grounds and the 256272 listing which I have added to the master list on page 1 of this thread.

You cant extrapolate it from a known number of a close unit? I know some were pulled out of production for repair but I would suspect it would be close .

Sure thing always glad to help if I can.

256272 has Ord# 4016 on the dataplate and the original name on the doors, ALI BABA.

256012 was missing the hood when I bought it and iirc 256117 was missing the hood sides.

Here is a pic I still have of the front of 256117.

Hi rgus,

Here is a few samples of the Lot 5 from the page 1 list:

-Lot------S.N.--------Hood #--------ORD #----Location
--5------256567-----6012056-------4561--------Wa.
--5------256605-----6011803-------4308--------Tx.
--5------256647----------------------4349--------Ca.
--5------256711-----6012090-------4595---------?---

As far as I know there is no rhyme or reason in how White used their serial numbers on a Lot assigned basis.

I was mistaken about the 99 on 256012 it is stamped in front of the Ord#. Also the ord# for 256012 seems way out of sequence at 6418. Maybe it was held back because of some problem at the factory and then delivered with a later batch.
