I have SN 255806
Ord number 3390
Former Greek imported by Sam Weiner
Now in Akron Ohio

Oscar, do you have any record or documentation of the USA Number on that one?

This was from a small Production Order for 600 units supposed to have been set aside for Defense Assistance.
No one has ever reported one within that range (2972 - 3571), & I was hoping maybe we could figure out the USA Numbers that were assigned to the range.

TIA

Joe

Will look through my paperwork.
I cannot remember finding a legible number under the paint from the Greek Army.
Will get it to you if I can find it.

Tom-
I gave you my Scout Car numbers at Tower some time ago, but don't see them included in the Scout Car Database. My main data plate is missing.

Serial number, 258504

USA REG., 609764

Motor No., 1720363

Notes, Location is California, to be restored. Ex. British Army, Roundel on hood, Hood No. M4987089, Greek return

Thanks for your work on the Scout Car Database, Randy

Hi RandyC,

>Serial number, 258504
>USA REG., 609764

Would guess your Greek return Scout Car was built on Production Order T-2382 for 600 units (Defense Assitance).

Coincidentally, this would be from the same P.O. as Oscar in the previous post.

He knows the Ordnance Serial Number of his (3390) but not the USA Registration Number.
You know the Registration Number of yours, but not the Ordnance Serial Number.

The White Manufacturer's Serial Number is not of much use, but I would have thought yours would be more like 255804 as opposed to 258504.

It would help to find a few examples within the range 2972 thru 3571 with known good Ord Serial & USA Registration Numbers together.

Just a guess that your Ord SN would be 3517, and Oscar's USA Number would be 609637, both made early 1942.

My SC has been marinating in an outbuilding for the last 15 or 20 years, been so long I cannot remember when I picked it up. Not sure whether Randy or I have the dubious record. However, it got pushed into the shop on Friday, which may indicate that restoration is on the horizon.
Would have been tempted to do a quick and dirty cleanup and leave it more or less as it was returned from Greece. I did drive it around the vineyard back in the day. However it has leaked a substantial amount of oil from, apparently, the trans, which probably indicates the engine, etc., is coming out, which means it's in line for a pretty complete "driver" level resto.
Two items:
It's missing the data plate, or maybe I've just not located it yet in the parts accumulations. Yeah I know where it's SUPPOSED to be. But did manage to raise the hood number, which is 6088541. Which indicates an Ordnance # of 15278. Correct? The frame number is 266284.
In searching for the data plate I did find a loose plate, source unknown, with frame number 264856 and Ord. number 13665. Yours if you have the matching vehicle.
Thanks to those who have contributed to the info in this thread.

Tom;
256117 has been in Indiana for a number of years waiting patiently for me to begin on it. I bought it as a basket case so other than the frame number data about it has been lost. Is there any way to approximate the ORD number and the hood numbers for this vehicle? Is there any information out there that explains the difference between each lot of production so you can determine what is correct and what is not?
43 M3A1 256117, 42 CCKW 129,XXX, 43 GPW 146954, 43 WC54 81635383, 43 WC54 81665843, 45 WC52 818682 "MO', 43 WC63 82009972 "BIG MO", 44 GTBA NAVY CARGO 218299, 43 PE95, 44 Checker K52 Trailer,42 MBT 375, 44 Coverto Trailer 886475
