Looking for a late style MB bell housing with a casting date around 9/25. Can anyone help?
In case everyone is wondering, not many people actually go through the trouble of truly restoring their MB’s using appropriately dated components. Since a lot of the major cast components have a casting date, it is only logical to find such dated parts that are in the correct date range for one’s MB. This is the only way (IMO) that an MB can be truely “factory” restored. This is why I’m looking for very specificly dated components for my Sept and my October 1944 MB’s.
Yes, I look for casting dates when I’m judging MB’s!
Thanks in advance!

Hi Michael,
I looked through my spares and did not find a 9/25 date. I applaud your goal to make parts period correct, but what judge is going to ask you to remove the bellhousing to check for the correct date? I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but at some point the Jeep has to be restored, driven, and enjoyed, right?

Dexter, obviously any judge would not expect one to remove the bell housing to inspect the casting date. Obviously, if the style is correct for the date range then there’s no concern, from a judging standpoint. Casting dates are visible on some other cast components though....something to remember. As far as finding an appropriately dated bell housing....that’s just to satisfy my own excessive compulsive perfectionist tendencies in trying to achieve as best a restoration possible. Even this MB’s wheel hubs all have the “correct” dates....one I had to replace on my Oct ‘44 MB since somebody in the past replaced it with a GPW “GP” marked one (who does that? LOL) The other 3 appeared to be original to the vehicle based on the casting dates.
I have a 9-21 dated late war MB bell housing that I may use but I’d like to find one just a few days later.
