WTB: MB body bolt kit

Post by Michael O. » Wed Oct 25, 2017 9:57 pm

Looking for a nice and proper reproduction MB body bolt kit. Some kits I've seen use modern hardware store bolts...looking for something more correct looking! Thanks!

Hi Michael,

Have you tried Toby Wacker? I know that a few years ago he did some GPW body bolts with springs, but not a full set. Worth giving him a try.

Joe's Motor Pool is making reproduction bolts, Ron F is distributing their products. I see they have a EC marked body handle set as well as other bolts.

If it is of help Michael, I can supply you the correct shape, size and style of tooth washers for said bolts.
5/16 external
5/16 internal/external
3/8 external
3/8 internal/external.
These are the washers with a 'squared' tooth the same as original take offs, not the 'pointy' type tooth of modern production washers.

I`m fairly certain I have the correct flat washers for the body bolts too in both thickness and OD/ID if that helps too.

If these are of any help, please let me know. I am still validating how many are needed and where exactly, but I am sure we can work it out! We have just moved house, so all is packed away right now, but I am slowly making headway into unpacking!

Cheers,
Ian.

Ian, do the bolt heads have modern headstamps on them?

What markings should be on the bolts?

Michael,
I don't have any bolts sorry. I can only offer the tooth and flat washers needed to complete the bolts. I have heard that Paolo Batisti does a repro bolt set, but I dont know details of it such a markings etc- I did see a few bolts from that set which a friend had bought and they were just modern bolts, though his kit was a few years old.

Dave- there is a reminder which keeps going off in my phone saying 'message Dave about new address'.... I`ll go actually write that message now hey!

Cheers
Ian.

Michael,
Several of the MB guys have searched without success for a good floor bolt set,AFAIK,there is none.I have a few of the shorter ones you are welcome to.'A' marked...used but nice.A member from the Czech Republic made some nice high head 'TR' marked 3/8 Cad plated bolts...2 inches or so in length a yr ago but were in NF thread.I hacked em down & used them anyway.Ladislav was his first name.
Ian's washers are cool to be available now, though we MB fastenerheads think they were used on Suppression type 2 only.
Let me know,I have only a few. They were originally from either a t84 or a t18 but share dimensions.I want no money for them.

Ralph is correct. I searched for 6 months for a correct kit with A, AA, CTR, or EC marked bolts but gave up. I am now trying to piece together original body bolts. Thanks to Ralph I got a little closer to completing it. Now my 45MB had all its original body bolts with Pal Nuts. It was a mix of A and AA bolts. However some of the longer bolts did not have markings. They are to sketchy to reuse. A lot of my original bolts in other locations did not have markings. So if I cant find original marked bolts I plan on purchasing bolts with the correct heads which should be correct for my factory restoration.
