Watch those nests!

Post by crankshaft45 » Fri Aug 11, 2017 7:53 am

Due to health issues I just started getting my mules ready to show. One is parked in the garage and the other in a new enclosed trailer. I got the garage one running after some mechanical work with the choke. Parked since last fall, I was pleaded it started so easy, ran it only for a minute because have not checked the engine for nests yet.

Today I started getting the trailered mule ready for a show tomorrow. It cranked a little longer than the other one, but started and ran fine. I thought there would not be a nest problem because it is in a sealed tight trailer. Just to be safe I pulled the center shroud. The left cylinder was clear as I expected. Looked to the right one and it was packed with dry grass. No sign of mouse activity, so don't know if they packed it or it was picked up while driving around last fall at shows. Lessen learned, always check! The garage one will be checked before anymore running.

Great Preventative Maintenance when the Mule has sat for the winter.

I use Sta-Bil in my Non Ethanol Fuel 2oz per 5gals.

Never hurts to change oil and filter and check/clean air filter.

MMO, Rislone and Sea Foam are great products as gas and oil additives to lubricate, clean and pick up water in the fuel.

At least the nest was not a hornet nest. lol. I picked up GPW and was being silly and sat in the broken front seat when.....BAM I got hit by dozens of hornets that had nested under the dash.....My ears were so swollen from stings. If you have never been bit on the ear, it is the worst. Although hornet do not chew wires like mice.
